With the $20 entrance fee, the only restroom is out of service, there is no other restroom in the entire place. Also no trash pick-up service with this fees. Dogs are doing their business here and there, and no disposal service. Really horrible place. Every time the owner/management changes, it increase the fees and service is getting less.

I would give negative stars if Google allowed me..
Beware!!!
The entrance operator, Sheila, is one of the most rude, unprofessional employees I have ever encountered. My husband and I had our older child go into the park before us. We needed a battery for our jet ski so I simply asked if I could enter with my kids in their vehicle. I was told no, I get it , there are rules. I ask if I could hand them towels and was RUDELY told no.
Again, I understand there are rules.
I also understand that there is a proper way to conduct yourself to paying customers. I own a business myself and would fire any employee over speaking to anyone in the manner she conducted herself.
Sheila even came out of the office to listen to the conversation between my daughter and I as she proceeded to start problems by very unnecessary talking by and forth between our personal conversation, talking down to me and borderline what I would consider harassment. It was extremely obvious that she was wanting to cause an argument being rude and unprofessional as possible. Even saying things like “she has a headache” referring to me as her hands are firmly on her hips. It is all on video and she is being reviewed. I will be contacting Mike, the general manager. Here I am trying to have a nice day with our Airman, serving our country, down from Japan for another 15 days. This is the way we are treated. Truly, extremely inappropriate and unbelievable. It’s and park, not the white house I’m trying to ask questions about. A park that should have kind, family friendly employees that are willing to professionally explain things. I recommend going elsewhere.

My experience comes from visiting on a Thursday, so I'm sure it's a whole lot different on the weekend. We arrived at around 10 am and the park was nowhere near capacity. We walked around to look at the area since it was our first time there. I went over to the tables by the big play ground and the little beach area. It's ok, but where you want to go is over to the left by the rocks. There's no sandy beach, but it's way more fun (if everyone in your party can swim, I wouldn't go there for little toddlers.) We set up our canopy and chairs, and jumped in the clear, refreshing water. You can sit on the rocks and the water is kind of shallow, but it doesn't gradually get deeper, you just step off the rock to the next rock until you can't touch anymore. Really enjoyed this park and would definitely go back during the week, did not feel crowded and really enjoyed our visit.

There are several places to set up and swim but we chose the rock ledge area. We loved it! It is a long rock ledge hundreds of yards long on one side of the peninsula. The park was so clean and well kept.
The rock ledge has a natural step that runs along the edge and it’s perfect for sitting of wading. We could see many small fish and my daughter enjoyed trying to catch them.
We spent the afternoon diving in from the rocks. The water is pretty deep and neither of us could touch bottom. The water is cool but not cold and it was 100°. Water felt about 72°. The water is so clear you could drink it. We felt very safe in the water. The location is away from most passing boats. It was like a nature overload.
The park wasn’t crowded and there were plenty of places to set up comfortably. We went in a Thursday afternoon last week. The park entrance lady was very sweet and friendly to us, so I don’t know if they hired a new one or she just liked us. The park was so clean and well kept. I didn’t see trash everywhere like others have noted, but maybe it was since cleaned.
Diving in from the rocks felt like a cool rush around my body. I’ve never enjoyed swimming in a lake this much. When we got out, we felt refreshed and cool, unlike other lakes where you feel disgusting and stinky. There is NO FOWL SMELL in this water. It’s like clean cool bath water. Wow!
This was our first experience at Canyon Lake. We absolutely loved it. We’ve decided to make this place a summer tradition every year!

I've been coming to Comal park since I could drive. This place used to rock and it is nice to see it settling down . I read most of the reviews and the top complaint is that it's trashy. It's the PEOPLE, people. If you want change you have to care. Say something when you see it. Don't hide and write about it. It's not just here at comal, almost any outdoor attraction or recreational area is the same. Pick up after you and yours, grab that loose bag or paper plate and throw it away. Set the example. Keep it kleen.. thanks for the read.

This past weekend we rented a boat on canyon lake for a few hours. LOVED the lake and had a blast. Once done, we wanted more water time so we decided to stop in at Canyon Beach Park. BAD IDEA! It is the most disgusting, dirty, trashy area I have seen. We were kicking pesticide bottles off the path to the water, the beach was covered in all kinds of trash, including dirty diapers. It reeked of poop on the beach :-x You didn't want to take your shoes off and walk anywhere. I didn't feel like it was a sanitary place for my two young daughters to be, whether in or out of the water. We left immediately. If you're looking for a nice, clean, family friendly place to hang out- DON'T GO THERE!!!!!

Arrived on Sunday at 9am to find trash spilling out of every can and large commerical bin available. It was still there at 3pm when we got off the lake. Bathrooms are disgusting and smell terrible. Locals told me it is always like this.
How does this place exist in America, especially in one of the richest states?

I realize the water level is down about 20 feet, but the garbage (diapers, bottles, plates) that were all around is just gross. I'd heard great things about Canyon Lake, but I saw nothing good about it.

This park is really in a beautiful spot, and it has the potential to be a wonderful park. There are lots of large picnic tables, many under a grove of shade trees. There also is a nice playscape suitable for small children. And the water itself is crystal clear in this area.
We hoped to spend the day at the park swimming with our 4 and 6 year old and my husband planned to fish. As soon as we arrived, the stench of trash was overwhelming. The large dumpsters were all overflowing and trash was piled up behind and in front of them, and a ton had blown all over the parking lot and surrounding grassy areas. It was like nothing I'd ever seen. Hoping for better further on, we walked down to the "beach" area and were slightly more optimistic (the trash seemed to be confined to the rockiest areas) until we tried to use the restroom to change into our suits. Big mistake since it is impossible to hold ones nose while putting on a bathing suit. The women's room was covered in trash and smelled worse than any outhouse.
I can forgive a lot when participating in outdoorsey activities, but this place was just wretched. Such a shame.

Are there cliffs to jump off in this park? Ones that are 10ft or higher.

This park is run by the Army Corp of Engineers. They were charging about $5 for a car load and the pass is good all day. They honor the National Park pass for FREE admission. If you will be a repeat visitor or will visit other National parks in the USA this is a great value.
I bought a lifetime pass so I don’t pay too much attention to prices or when they change.
At Canyon Lake there are precious few lake swimming options.
A FREE site is at the base of the dam below Overlook Park which is also free and is a great swimming hole. The park closes at sunset which offers an amazing sunset view over the lake.
