There is a park near the dam where you can sit and look over Canyon Lake. It is beautiful. From there we walked down to the clear blue water. Then climbed up the hill and walked the walkway Great way to spend some time on a good weather day.

I decided that my kids and I needed to "move" while vacationing near Canyon Lake. We walked the Canyon Dam, taking in breathtaking views, visiting the beach, and playing in the water.
The only downside is that the women's restroom door would not latch. I didn't want to leave the kids outside guarding the door while I went in or me taking one kids in, leaving the other ones to watch the door. (All the kids are under 10. There were also a couple of men at the men's restroom.) I went to the office to report it and was told that the Rangers would be notified, but there was no ETA on when it would be addressed. It could be a day or so. The office has a No Public Restrooms sign posted on the door & there are no other restrooms around, so we left to get to the nearest restroom.

Stroll along walkway (20 minutes) and enjoy vista of Canyon Lake and hills. There are trails along lakefront.

Apparently, someone took issue with the walkway and was able to get it shut down to the public. A very sad loss for 1000’s of visitors.

If you're looking for a free, easy, beautiful walk, take the walk along the dam at Canyon Lake. It's .8 miles in each direction, and if you make the walk in the morning, you'll meet some nice people, and maybe even see some deer at the north end (I
saw a family of five deer). Good exercise and beautiful views!

Canyon Lake is a great location to spend a day or a week. Go on top the Dam and enjoy the walk across with views of the Guadalupe river as well as the Lake. Morning or evening, both are enjoyable times to visit.

My daughter and walked the dam and it was simply breath taking. We had the most beautiful day for a stroll and was always greeted by friendly people walking by!

The dam is not spectacular, but it's worth a visit for a nice walk across with views across the lake.

This was a great place for a easy morning hike and also just a place to sit for awhile listening to the waves.

It is about a mile over and back. However you can go out as far or as short as you want. There is plenty of room to stop and take in the sight
It is so wide that sometimes they host a car show on top of it and folks check out the cars parked there. This is rare but should give you an idea about the space.
So walk out 50 feet or go the distance it is level and paved the entire distance.
