This is a very popular hike but it doesn't mean it is easy. It is a long hot hike and at the end you will need to scramble up a ravine to see the "Lighthouse." Bring plenty of water, wear a hat and be aware of rattlesnakes. The temperature is at least 5 degrees hotter in the canyon floor than... More

Excellent hike in Palo Duro Canyon State Park! Well-marked with a wide dirt path and signposts every tenth of a mile. It's a very easy trail until the last little bit which is something of a scramble requiring use of your hands also. I did it though, all the way up, and I'm a 50-year-old woman. My daughter opted not... More

Made this hike with my 2 boys, ages 5 and 7. The 2.7 mile trail is a modest hike, relatively flat and well marked trail. This trail is like the all inclusive version of the Palo Duro Canyon experience. Once at the end of the 2.7 mile trail, there is a final accent to the top. It does not take... More

We hiked up in late July, so it was hot! Take LOTS OF WATER and stay hydrated. Winding path that is a moderate hike. Not the best one to start with if you're a beginner...a good amount of climbing. Take your time to enjoy the scenery and appreciate the rugged beauty of the canyon! We stopped to take photos, eat... More

The Lighthouse Formation trail is our favorite. We rode our bikes to the end and then hiked to the formation. Lots of beauty and fun.

Great hike with beautiful views. Around 6 miles round trip and took just under 3 hrs. Easy trail to hike until the last bit up to the lighthouse rock. Trail is easy to follow.

Great trail with minimal elevation changes. Nice wide trail with good markings. Does get steep if you climb up to the formation.

You might be dusty and hot and ready to turn back, but keep going once you get to the end of the trail! Take that path to the left of the picnic table and climb through the rocks (I suggest shoes with some traction and gloves). It's not that hard--you can do it! The view is worth it! (Bring extra... the main part of the trail is very flat and easy and the end can be as challenging as you light. It is a great view and worth the 3 mile hike

Getting to the lighthouse is OK. Mostly flat terrain and crowded. But once you get to the lighthouse, most don't travel to the top and that part of the trip is the best.
