A Large portion of the Bastrop State Park was destroyed by a devasting fire in September of 2011. The community along with the State and other organizations have been replanting the trees. Although it doesn't possess the same beauty it offers an interesting perspective in how a forest is regrown. There are still a number of areas that were not burned that you can see as well as a number of the Historic buildings. This park is listed in the National Historic Registry. There is RV and tent camping available. Bastrop State Park is located next to Buescher State Park and suffered very little damage.

You can see the beauty of the Lost Pines, see what a fire can do to a forest and see the Lost Pines in their toddler stage of growth.

Both Bastrop and Buescher State Parks are not far from the North and South shores of Lake Bastrop where you can enjoy a wonderful weekend at the Lake.

Very cute cabins, clean but dusty. I would bring your own pillow and cover. There is no longer a stream running through but it's peaceful and has hiking trails. Booking usually 2-3 months in advance.

Spent Sunday morning participating in a Half Marathon thru Bastrop State Park. Great location for an event! Trails are cleared and a variety of different surfaces from paved to sand, to gravel to dirt, etc..... Moderate to an easy difficult level. Just enough challenge to give you a workout, but not so much that it wipes you out! A few... More

Camping spots were a tad small but we managed to fit. Restrooms were very up to date and clean. Staff was very friendly including the park police.

I did a trail run with TROT there, love the trails and shade! Our girls have been and also enjoyed the trails, although there is always whining when hiking with littles.

Very nice place for a wedding. The lodge is not a hotel. Just able to use the facility both inside and out. Very nice place for large reunions or other functions. Kitchen is available as well.

This place is peaceful. Be glad when the trees come back. We saw plenty of wild life, rabbits, lizards, beautiful flowers. Husband picked a quart of blackberry. The staff are nice. The park is clean with level spots. We stayed here in our motorhome

The fire of 2011 still shadows over the park BUT what joy to see the young trees and vegetation coming on. We had a great hike around the trails and very much enjoyed the opportunity to be out in the park. Very nice park staff! Very clean!

We visited with a small dog during Spring Break. We stayed in the Copperas campground. It is an appropriate campsite for small to medium-sized RVs as well as tents. The road is narrow, but well paved within the campground loop itself. Sites include water, electricity, fire pit, grill, and an uncovered picnic table. Shade is provided by the tall beautiful... We stopped at the park on a whim really, just happened by and pulled in. The park was nice, well maintained and offered a few things to do. We hiked several of their trails and got a look at the remnants of the devastating wildfire that happened in 2011. Also got to see the effects of the very important prescribed... More
