We stopped at the park on a whim really, just happened by and pulled in. The park was nice, well maintained and offered a few things to do. We hiked several of their trails and got a look at the remnants of the devastating wildfire that happened in 2011. Also got to see the effects of the very important prescribed... More

Very few people in the park when it is cold allowing us to be undisturbed in our trip. The lake is beautiful and the woods have come a long way from the fire.

This is the second time that we have stayed here on a trip to Austin. Much more pleasant than an RV park, which abound in the area. The park has been impacted by fire and during our JAN17 visit, there is quite a bit of water damage on the roads and mass slumping. Interesting to watch the recovery. Camp sites... More

A forest fire in 2011 affected 96% of this once lovely park. There is no longer a lake, and the golf course closed. The cabins are still intact, as is the swimming pool (seasonal), but the dead trees all around are so sad. The park service is trying to restore the park, and has tree planting opportunities nearly every weekend... More

Disappointed, no Lake, and beside the 25.00 fee they charged 10.00 fee. Very well maintained, camping space #11 is a few of the interstate.

Went hiking here several months ago. It is a good place to hike, but beware that some of the woods (on the longer hikes) are fire-scarred from the Big Bastrop fires. The toad that is protected is almost nonexistent. The hike though was wonderful, with many places to stop at. Not too hilly, but enough relief so it isn't just... More

We spent a day exploring this area and the park was such a nice way to spend some time. Sadly evidence of tgecfires as you approach Bastrop but our walks were delightful and wexsaw a lot of birds. Lots of trails and footpaths which are just waiting for you to explore. Very peaceful. Great place to get away from it... More

This was my first time to send time in the park since the fire. It is recovering nicely, and the hiking trails are well-maintained.

Stayed at park prior to fire. It was amazing and probably one of the most beautiful in the region. Now it is over grown brush with signs of recovery and many, many burned tree trunks. The park itself is still well maintained and the staff was very friendly when we asked if we could drive through the park. I was... More
