Natchez Trace State Park is named for the famous "Natchez to Nashville" highway, an important wilderness road during the early 18th century. A western spur of The Trace ran through a portion of what is now the park. The park was built as part of President Roosevelt's "New Deal" program. The land was bought from residents who could no longer make a living farming the land because of extensive erosion problems. With the many acres of scenic woodlands, the park includes four lakes, a swimming beach, a 47 room resort inn and restaurant complex, cabins, group lodge, camping areas, picnicking sites, playgrounds, a ball field, a regulation pistol firing range, picturesque hiking trails, a wrangler camp, 250 miles of horse riding trails, a park store, and archery range. Located at I-40, exit 116, this area is composed of a State Park, State Forest and a WMA with a total of 48,000 acres.

We adventured into a 5 mile hike around one of the lakes on a gorgeous clear day. The park is very well marked and there are plenty of things to do all year round. While hiking in February, the trail is quite muddy but most muddy watery places are traversed with bridges expertly built by the local Boy Scouts troop.... More

We were heading back to Delaware from our visit to the Grand Canyon, and Natchez Trace matched our travel schedule and location. We arrived after dark, which is a big mistake at this park. There are two campgrounds in the park, and it is not clear that one is for RVs and the other is for tent campers. The entrance... More

Spent a night on a trip across I-40 tent camping and was very impressed. The price was reasonable but the space was great, campground one space 23. At the end of the road with lake views on both sides, and a weeknight so the place was nearly empty. An evening swim followed by a hot shower before dinner and an... More

Camped here years ago (tent) and decided it was time to return since previously it was a nice visit. Enjoyed it again but in the years since my last visit my health has declined and I needed to be closer to the restrooms so I reserved the disabled campsite, which unfortunately I now qualify for. Never again. I'll just drive... More

We pulled over to check this place out as we like a quiet place to rest after a long day of sightseeing. Nice fairly level spots, electricity and water hook-ups and a dump station...all for $17.25 with a senior pass. Score! Oh...& oh so quiet.

Our visit to the park was so laid back and relaxing. I live near the park, so I've been to it many times. My husband and I went earlier in the day, around 11 or 12, so that we could rent a paddle boat. We rented one for 3 hours, which was $15 total-not bad at all! We very much... More

We hiked here because it was a convenient stop on our trek back and forth to Memphis. The park is right off the interstate so not a lot of driving just to arrive at the trail heads. It seems a bit dated, no updates to any buildings although the cabins that we saw on our hike seemed relatively newer and... More

We visit Natchez Trace park around 3 or 4 times a year. We like to boat & it is our favorite lake in west TN. The campground is nice; although, it's not very shaded.

It's been 3 months since I stopped here as I began my cross country adventure from KY to AK and back. The campground was perfect. Yes, it was muddy from the rain but James Franklin gave me tips on how to get to the site, was friendly, and it was a quiet place to rest.....and the bathrooms were clean! The... More
