Great campground

The campground is very clean and all the staff and park rangers are very accommodating. Very short drive to all the restaurants and souvenir shops

I've heard about this Park most of my life, and was disappointed by its current condition: 1) Exhibits in the State Park museum/visitor center haven't been updated since the mid 1990s; 2) We walked every trail in the park and every one of them is poorly maintained, lacking even basic signage at the trailhead; 3) North campground bathrooms are closed... The staff is fantastic. The visitors center was small and well done, though it is run down and could use a refreshing. They have rescued eagles, owls and hawks on site which was a joy to see. The boardwalk through the Cyprus trees was neat and it's a beautiful area. There are countless birds in the trees, come with binoculars.

Great place to visit!, Although there were fairly large number of people, the rangers and staff handled everything with good humor and professionalism.

One of the most beautiful areas I have ever seen . We took the class on a field trip. We stopped and visited the lake and talked about the earth quake that caused the lake to appear. Beautiful country

The state park is located in the Mississippi Flyway for migratory birds, including annually returning bald eagles who have nests at the lake. Made it as a day trip from Memphis. The drive was easy, about 2 hours. The state park rangers are friendly and seem to enjoy their work and the visitors. We took the bus tour ($5 fee)... More

First, if you're not a hunter you MUST go by the State of Tenn. Welcome Center, particularly during Eagle watching season. The bus tour (at a very nominal fee) is great--we had Shane as a ranger and he knew everything along with uncanny abilty to spot wildlife. One can rent a boat to fish or watch birds, they are available.

We had both an afternoon tour and the morning tour. Our guide went out of his way to find the best photo opportunity. We saw 12 eagles on the afternoon tour and 32 on the morning tour. Best $20 spent!! Go to the evening bird of prey show, free to the public and great show!

Between December and March this is a hot spot for Bald Eagle watching and photographing. We usually make a day of it and drive all the way around the lake with a side trip up on the Mississippi river levee. There are several eagle nests located along the levee and around the lake. A birder's paradise with Bald Eagles, Ducks,... More
