Lots of fun for 3 yr. old and 3 adults

We took our children and they thought it was a blast but don't waist your $$ on the big expensive buckets. Very few gems are native to this area so they buy the rocks and put them in the buckets and fill the buckets with sand. My husband watched them do it through a crack in the door frame while... More

We purchased a $35 bucket and had multiple Rubies, Emeralds and Sapphires as well as an arrowhead, sharks teeth, geode, fool's gold, aquamarine, quartz and many more. Had one Emerald and one Sapphire cut and that was pricey but they turned out very pretty. We are getting our own necklace settings. Our 3 y/o wants to come back again. The... More

The water flues are outside so we froze our fingers, but we had fun. I bought my 10 yr old grandson the $25. mixed stone and gem bucket. About the size of an old fashion water bucket. We found enough to make my grandson excited. Then, Inside, they tell you for free what you have found. My only complaint was... More

Neat to see as free, but same as mining places we have been to before as far as mining goes; a little on the expensive side in my opinion; the staff were very nice and the different rocks, fossils, minerals, and other items in the store were neat to look at if you like rocks!

I really enjoy this little activity, however the only complaint is it is a little pricey for no more than you get in a bucket. Not to mention having to pay a bit if you want to have a piece of jewelry made.

I loved this place when I was a kid. My parents used to take me here on our vacations and they spent way too much money here for me lol. My mom got them to make a ring for her out of a garnet I got in the mine 8+ years ago, and now is getting them to make a... More

We had a terrific time doing this! Bought one of the larger buckets and shared, then my youngest liked it so much, he asked to buy another smaller bucket with his own money! I had two stones cut and set, and they came out beautiful. Shasta was very helpful in selecting stones and settings, and she knew so much about... More

The staff were fun and friendly. Gem buckets might be a little overpriced but I got some nice stones. You get a free cutting of the lower prices stones or a certain amount off the nicer stones. I chose a sapphire the 1st day and an amethyst the 2nd.

Ok, so maybe not so hidden, but along with riding coasters, this was our favorite thing to do during our second trip to the Smokies. They had a plethora of gorgeous gems, minerals and fossils. There were many types of buckets to choose from based on price (from $35 to $1000 😵). You shovel out sandy dirt containing the gems... More

I'm a gemologist, so this was perfect for me. My son had a great time sifting through the sand. You can purchase all different sizes of buckets to suit your budget. The staff were very friendly and explained every gem/mineral you found in your bucket. They even offer free cutting of a stone if you like.
