Since opening in 2001, the Frist Center for Visual Arts has hosted a spectacular array of art from around the world. Not only an important cultural focal point for the city of Nashville, it is also a significant architectural structure, occupying one of Nashville’s great historic landmarks, the former main post office. Constructed from 1933 to 1934 under the direction of the local architectural firm of Marr & Holman, it displays both of the most distinctive architectural styles of the period: Classicism and Art Deco.

It was suggested I visit here by a local. For $12 you cannot go wrong. The Tibetan Monks exhibit will be there until May 7th. They will then come back and have a special closing ceremony. If you are in the area you should stop in. It really is a special show. There is also a second floor but I... More

I love the gift shop and the mandala on display. I enjoyed the children activities on the 2nd floor.

This was my first time visiting the Frist Center. I enjoyed my time there. The two standout exhibits for me were the Claire Morgan and Irving Penn exhibits. I would definitely return on future trips to Nashville to see more exhibits.

We had a great time exploring the little gem. The downstairs had wonderful exhibits, and the upstairs had a great kid friendly center where our kids had multiple options for painting, drawing, creating and playing. Kids are free, and adults were $12 a piece. We spent about 2 hours, and really enjoyed a morning there. There is free wi-fi and... More

Visited for the Bellissima exhibit and the Art Deco style Frist Center is beautiful. The staff is helpful and kind and made for a wonderful experience. If you have children, the children's discovery museum upstairs is nice. It's more for the 3 and older crowd though. The museum is stroller friendly.

There is a PHENOMENAL exhibit downstairs that includes a mandala made by monks. It's being destroyed on May 7th, so go see it before than because it is AMAZING. The other exhibit downstairs was interesting as well. Upstairs isn't much. Worth the money? Kind of. I had the college student discount. There is NO way I would pay the full... More

I knew nothing about the Frist before we went to Nashville. I used to collect Art Deco and so was excited to see an art collection in a repurposed Art Deco post office. By mistake we walked into the still functioning post office which is original, brilliant and in great condition The Frist has no permanent collection. Among the exhibitions... More
