Belle Meade Plantation is a non-profit historic site located in Nashville, TN. Established in 1807, Belle Meade was revered as the greatest thoroughbred stud farm in the United States. It was home to Iroquois, the first American bred horse to win the Epsom Derby and the great foundation sire,Bonnie Scotland, whose descendants include Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Native Dancer, Big Brown and California Chrome.

Belle Meade was owned and operated by the Harding-Jackson family for nearly a century from 1807 until 1906. Today their home is restored to its turn of the century appearance along with several original outbuildings.

First southern trip and with a busy schedule we wanted to visit a plantation, this is not really a plantation, more of a horse race farm so I will address what the visit meant to us, very informative, pleasant and definitely a good way to learn about how life was 100+ years. I wonder if the historic information is accurate...beautiful... More

Really enjoyed this plantation with historical perspectives. Also interesting was the path to renovation of the property. Surprise was the wine tasting opportunity and lovely restaurant for lunch.

We did not have time to take the actual tour of the Plantation, which i am sure would have been fabulous, However, we had lunch at the restaurant which the food was excellent. (and not too pricey) We were able to walk the grounds and see the outside areas which there are plenty to see. Definitely worth the trip

It was worth a visit to learn about the family who lived here and how their horse stud farm made them millions of dollars and how some of today's racehorses are descendants of their famous thoroughbred. The ticket included a wine tasting session. After emancipation some of the slaves remained as employees, a few of them earning high wages.

Enjoyed touring the grounds and mansion at Belle Meade Plantation. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and personable and welcomed many questions from our group. We learned quite a bit about the Jackson/Harding families. The guided tour of the mansion was about 45 minutes long, with a wine tasting at the end. Prior to our guided tour, we walked around... Belle Meade is a lovely way to spend 2-3 hours on a gorgeous Nashville day. One feels as if one is driving to a friend's house in a very nice neighborhood. I wanted to visit, as I love touring historical homes. But the brochure says "History Horses Hospitality," so I thought, ok, Horses. Fascinating story there also if you like... More

We loved this tour. Lovely people. We enjoyed hearing the amazing history of the plantation and horses. Wine wasting was quick, but nice. They also had some cute gift shops. Recommend for family, but small children would be bored.

We really enjoyed our trip to Nashville and it would have been sad to go and not have gone to the Belle Meade Plantation. If you are on your fist visit to Nashville I recommend going to the Plantation and then go get yourself some hot chicken at Hattie B's.

When we bought our tickets, we thought it was a bit expensive. AFTER the tour, we thought it was well worth it! The guides are very entertaining. The plantation is well maintained. You feel like you are stepping back in time. They are working on developing more about the other side of life at the plantation from the slaves point... More
