Belle Meade Plantation is a non-profit historic site located in Nashville, TN. Established in 1807, Belle Meade was revered as the greatest thoroughbred stud farm in the United States. It was home to Iroquois, the first American bred horse to win the Epsom Derby and the great foundation sire,Bonnie Scotland, whose descendants include Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Native Dancer, Big Brown and California Chrome. Belle Meade was owned and operated by the Harding-Jackson family for nearly a century from 1807 until 1906. Today their home is restored to its turn of the century appearance along with several original outbuildings.

We arrived early for our tour and explored the grounds, then enjoyed the guided house tour and wine tasting. We had a delicious lunch at the Harding House and returned to the winery where we purchased a bottle of wine to enjoy on the patio...More

Wine tasting was great. We did not do the actual tour of the mansion, but learned quite a lot just by walking around grounds. Unless you do the tour, you probably won't need to spend any longer than an hour here.

The tour of the mansion was spectacular. You walk around the grounds on your own and can't go in all the buildings but get a sense of the history. The winery and shops were great. We spent a few hours here.

Take the time to see this plantation if you are a history person or a civil war person. The rich history that is there is humbling and overwhelming. Def. worth the time and $$!

We greatly enjoyed spending several hours roaming the property after our guided house tour. The property is beautiful, the employees knowledgeable and friendly though we were disappointed that there were no ghost stories to be shared. Make sure to visit the blacksmith as he was...More

The very complex history of the families was very interesting. We had a special treat since Rob, the main historian, gave us the tour. He knows too much! But it made for a great experience. The home is furnished with all of the original items...More

We took a guided tour of the plantation mansion. The guide was very knowledgeable and interesting. We didn't see much of the rest of the plantation. Very hot day but air conditioned in the house.

We did not do Belmont so I cannot comment on that. Between Belle Meade and the Hermitage, both very interesting and both very different. Belle Meade is larger and you can actually enter the rooms in the home, whereas The... More

How long does this tour take? I've already purchased tickets for a 10:30-11:15 tour on a weekday. We definitely want to do the wine tasting when the tour ends. Friends of mine have invited us to have lunch at a restaurant about 20 min. away from the Plantation at 1:30 the same day. Will we be able to meet them? Thanks

Tour is about 30-45 minutes. It's only the mansion that is guided that requires tickets. The grounds can be walked before. Arrive at 9:50. By the time you park and get checked in, it will be 10:00. The grounds can be... More
