About
When you walk through the doors of historic Ryman Auditorium, one thing becomes clear right away: this isn’t just another nightly music venue, and it’s so much more than a daytime tourist stop. This place is hallowed ground. This is the exact spot where bluegrass was born—where Johnny Cash met June Carter, where souls were saved and a slice of history was nearly lost. It was right here that country music found an audience beyond its own back porch, and countless careers took off as deals were signed on napkins and paper scraps backstage. Open daily for tours and shows, right in the heart of Music City.

    Phenomenal piece of history
This was the first stop for us on or trip to Nashville and it did not disappoint. We did the self guided tour that starts with a timeline of the Ryman while waiting to see a fantastic 15 minute film about the history of the Ryman. Then you exit and walk in the balcony and the moment you see those wooden pews and that stage is a spiritual experience for music and history lovers. There are displays up at the top but we just sat and then took pictures. They were getting ready for a concert so we could see all the prep work getting ready. We then go downstairs and you can have a picture made up on stage which we did. A phenomenal piece of American history!

    A touchstone of a venue.
We actually saw a concert at the Ryman, which will remain a fabulous memory! We had planned to tour the venue on our vacation, but after watching their schedule we were thrilled to see a live performance. That being said, the Ryman hosts a wide spectrum of acts from all genres.

The Spooky “Mother Church” tour…… Well kinda, but fun!
Da wife and I have never been to Nashville before, let alone the Ryman. So we decided to try the Haunted Tour. Yes it was hokey as we expected. But our guide was fun and played into it. This is supposedly the only tour to take you under the stage (hint: dirt, rock, wood supports and a lot of electrical conduit). You can’t overstate the history of the place. It’s a shame it’s almost literally buried under the weight and oppressive sound of the multi-story “honky-tonk” bars on the sides. I’m a huge Todd Snider fan. He’s a mainly folk artist that lives on the East Side of Nashville. He actually played the Ryman on his 50th birthday. His friend John Prine joined him for an encore of Illegal Smile. I wore Todd’s shirt to commemorate that. It’s worth a visit!

    Great Venue, Expensive Tour
We went to the Ryman as we're country music fans, but it felt very overpriced for what it was, especially as we did the self-guided tour. The venue itself is very small so it doesn't take very long to explore. It does include an interesting video on the history before you enter the Auditorium, though. It also includes a free printed photo on the stage. I would only recommend this if you're really interested in country music and its history. If not, it is not really worth the cost, especially given it was the most expensive activity we did in Nashville. It is also worth noting that downloading the tickets on an app seemed completely unnecessary as I had to download the app just for this whereas every other place we visited simply emailed our tickets.

    Very nice
Very lovely experience. I will admit that we got our tickets on sale buy one get one so the tickets came out to 13 dollars this included a tour of Johnny Cash tour bus. I would it was worth 13 dollars a person but it doesn't seem to me worth the full price. Sorry I feel they should keep the price at 13 dollars

Don't miss the iconic "Mother Church of Country Music" VIP tour
We took the VIP and loved it. Two years ago, we were there for the Vince Gill/Amy Grant Christmas Special and took the self-guided tour, so this time, we took the VIP tour and were very impressed. We saw the same concert this year and thoroughly enjoyed it. I highly recommend it if you can get tickets.

    The Sensational Mavericks
We went to see The Mavericks, they were nothing short of sensational. I say run don’t walk to a Mavericks concert. From the second they came on stage people were on their feet dancing. Usually this doesn’t happen till the end of show, but not with the Mavericks., The energy they bring is off the charts. Of course this does have its drawbacks as some people wanted the folks in front of them to sit down. Well then you can’t see. It’s a good problem to be sure. The show started at 8, but it had an opening act, although good Maggie Rose, she was onstage for 45 mins. Then the setting up of the stage took time and the Mavericks took the stage at almost 9:30. Their performance ended close 11:45. 3 hrs and 45 minutes is a very long time to be standing or worse sitting on those very hard pews. I wish the website or tickets would indicate if there is an opening act. Then you could decide if it’s worth being there for so long. We only go if it’s someone we just have to see. The Mavericks are on the top of that list. We only go if it’s someone we really want to see. The Mavericks are definitely part of that list.

    Iconic venue
Visited in the afternoon for the film and tour. Well worth it. Then returned in the evening for a concert - again, very enjoyable.. Highly recommend doing the tour before attending a concert so that you fully appreciate the history of the venue.

Wonderful to see and hear the history - where the grand ole Opry started. Our guides are so knowledgeable, many things to learn and see . Takes about 1.5 if you do it fast . Great to see before going to grand old Opry .

    Guided Tour 😊
We took the guided tour in Match 2024. While I'm not really a country music fan, I LOVED this! The history in this building is so cool. My Dad visited during the glory days of The Grand Ole Opry. We had a great tour guide who told stories, showed us backstage, dressing rooms. They took our photo on the famous stage. The photo was free with our paid tour ticket. After the tour ended, our ticket gave us access to Johnny Cash's tour bus that was parked in the parking lot. Very cool! (We understand it's headed back to Cleveland to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame for the summer). This tour was very enjoyable. 5 stars!

We bought tickets for the Cody Johnson performance and sat on the main floor in the 11th row with a good view of the state. UNFORTUNATELY, I am 5'1" and everyone stood for the entire concert so I didn't have a chance of seeing the performers. It really ruined the experience for me. I would recommend that you get first row balcony tickets if you ever decide to attend a concert at this location.

Additionally, the seats are very hard....like old fashioned church pews.

We were here in February for a Grace Potter concert and it was the worst sounding music experience we had in five days in Nashville. The sound at the Bridgestone Arena across the street was better. I assume that the Ryman would be setup for better sound than what we experienced so the only other explanation I can come up with is that for some reason the person operating the soundboard assumed that louder is always better. It was so bad that we had to leave. I was impressed with the building but I would strongly recommend that you choose the artist carefully before buying concert tickets.

The hubby and I had been to Nashville a few times but had never visited the Ryman. Since one of our favorites, Cody Johnson, was playing there, we decided to buy tickets but since it was a "sold out show", the only tickets available were through Ticket Masters. Again, having never been there, we had no idea the layout or seating of this building. They pack 6 people into a small church pew!!! The back of the lower auditorium is underneath a low ceiling (balcony) with very little airflow, and it was hot! Add to that, we had at least 5 people on our pew and the adjoining pew that were 250-300+ pound men, so we could barely move. My husband and I ended up standing in the back of the auditorium for over half the concert just to get some air. Note, if you are standing at the back of the auditorium, you can only see half the performers bodies on stage because the back ceiling is so low. Music was fantastic. But overall experience was disappointing. Choose your seats CAREFULLY!

We've visited the Grand Ole Opry several times but had a first time visit to the Ryman to see Robert Earl Keen's Christmas Show. Admittedly, the building smells old but it is old. The charm is the age, the posters from previous acts, and the sounds of the artists. We loved the history of the building, the performance by REK, and his band. I don't think there would be a bad seat in the house. All are church pews except the last rows in the balcony which are folding chairs. There was a lot of movement in the crowd when we were there with people getting up and out of seats and down the aisles often. Guess they couldn't get enough of the $12 drinks. Bring the big wallet if you like to imbibe!

Oh and for an absolute first at any venue, the guys upstairs bathroom line was ten times longer than the womens restroom.

Took in my first show at the Ryman. Didn't expect to feel the history like we did. From the show announcer to the acts we felt like we were a part of something special. Brett Kissel was the draw for us fellow Canadians, but the whole show was fun to watch and we had plenty of laughs.

The Ryman Auditorium stands the test of time in downtown Nashville as the city skyscrapers have soared above it in recent years. As more and more new construction takes place, it seems out of place. However, once you lay your eyes on the building you will easily forget these distractions and as you step inside the mecca of Country Music you will be taken back decades to a simpler time.

See the stage whee so many famous musicians have performed and sit in a church type pew and imagine what those shows must have been like. Even better if you are lucky enough to be in town when a special performance is taking place at the Ryman, it is an absolute must see event.

If you could only see one thing while in Nashville, this would have to be it!

Visiting twice during out trip. Once for the Friday night broadcast show main act for us was Crystal Gayle but all other performers were famous (if you know a lot about country music). Also saw Elvis Costello which was more of straight gig. No back up band he came on right at the beginning.

Guided tour was great. Our guide was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot of history about the Ryman and how it got started, as well as great stories of country music stars who performed there. Guided tour included dressing rooms, backstage, onstage, and auditorium. The intro tour was excellent and historical.

Don't miss a chance to visit this beautiful old building and learn about its history. Any Country music fan should really take time to check this out. The architecture is so impressive and there is so much information displayed all around the auditorium. Everything is so carefully maintained and it is very easy to imagine what an experience it would have to attend a concert back in the day.

I am not a huge music fan, but I love history and the Ryman has it all! It was interesting to learn about the history of music in Nashville and of the building itself. You can definitely “feel” the past in those pews and looking at the stage! Definitely a must see in Nashville! Would totally recommend booking a show and tour in advance of your trip. We missed out on seeing a show and it is definitely on the list for our next visit.
