When I first visited this centre a few years ago, the wetlands was in flood and the centre was closed- it was Covid.
I visited again this week and it was open... I finally got to go inside and look around. It's really well set up - an information area, a gift area, information brochures, toilets and there is an area right behind it with a beautiful garden looking over a pool of water.
Further, the lady inside was so informative. Only because of her assistance did I take a different road home and it was incredibly scenic. She also was able to give me ideas for more day trips.
If you are in Yea, I would put this on your list of things to do... because whilst the wetlands area is flooded and inaccessible at the moment... you can still enjoy the garden and the centre.

My wife and I visited the Yea Water Discovery Centre conveniently located close to the centre of the charming Yea Township on the Yea River and also part of the Information Centre; so very easy to find and ample parking just outside. We had never heard of this place or the Yea Wetlands until convinced to visit by a close Rotary friend. We only had time for a short visit and recommend at least 2 hours be set aside to learn more about the importance of better use of water and our waterways and wetlands in our communities. Special thanks to the staff of the Y Water Discovery Centre who made our visit so enjoyable. The Yea River had been in flood so we really had genuine wetlands!

Came to Yea to see the Yea Wetlands with a group of photographer friends on the weekends.
The Discovery Centre Lady on duty was informative, friendly and very helpful.
Toilets available here and has a nice gift shop area.
Apparently for groups they will also do a Devonshire Tea if you book.
Happy with my visit here.

Many places like this have concentrated more on the information they are giving, rather than the way of delivering the information. The discovery centre has been designed with children brought up with technology at their finger tips. Most of the exhibits have big screens and touch screen interactions to show how the wetlands are so important to the ecosystem. They haven't tried to fill you with useless facts, but delivered the overview in a way that a little bit will be remembered by the children because of the way they had to interact to get the information. Us big kids can also play with the exhibits. Out the back is the wetlands reserve.

Located opposite the Police Station on Hood Street the Y Water Discovery Centre is a must see in Yea. My expectations were low and I was blown away by the attraction. An information area guards the entrance to the Yea Wetlands. Once through the doors you are able to walk along nicely manicured paths through the wetlands. Numerous birds can be seen and heard whilst you stroll through the area. You can take as long or as short a time as you wish. The river is also home to platypus which we sadly didn't see. Information boards describe particular areas of interest. It is rare to find an attraction of this caliber which is free. Staff were friendly and very approachable. Well done ladies. The information centre also has toilets.

we arrived at the Y Discovery Centre. We went inside and walked around the museum and the shop before being split into groups and taken out into the wetlands. We walked across a big cable suspension bridge the walk continues along the river bank where if you’re lucky you can see a platypus or native water rats. The walk then heads further out into the forest you can see Koalas and lots of native birds and learn about how the aboriginals treated the wetlands. It is a beautiful place that I didn’t even know it was there.
