This is a great scenic area with an easy river trail if you have the time for a longer walk. We most enjoyed the Cascades - It's a short but steep walk down to the base of the cascades - well worth the effort. There was lots of water flowing when we visited. There are a few viewing points of the Cascades including the bridges over the river. It is linked to the longer river walk if you have more time available.

Spectacular cascade in full flow. Very impressive. Within 10 minutes walk from the large car park. Just follow the steps down, and down. Met a Buddhist monk halfway down - not something you see every day

We love camping at Murrindindi - and we've done a lot of camping. I enjoy having a wire fenced area to yourself, where no-one else can set up camp right on top of your own! There are trees/bushes in between sites to create a bit of privacy. The flushing toilet is a highlight for me, I've done a lot of camping with pit dunnies and even made our own, so this is a little luxury. We live within an hours drive, so to find such a peaceful spot close by is a bonus. The walking tracks are well laid out, and the river is beautiful. Most sites have a fire pit with a cooking plate, etc. There is ample wood to make a campfire. All the parks are well signed - we've stayed in Suspension Bridge and Bull Creek so far. I liked Suspension Bridge, cos the walk to the river to collect water was much easier. For $7 a night - who can complain! Seemed to be a lot of families camping too - which makes you feel safer. Who needs doof doof music and loud disrespectul behaviour, when all you want to do is relax and enjoy the great outdoors. The Ranger drives by regularly, which is a comfort. Thank you for giving us such a lovely, affordable place to experience camping.

Murrindindi Scenic Reserve has something for every camper. We took our caravans and stayed in the Blackwood Camp, close to the river, not far to the dump toilets. They have done extensive work here since the fires and opened up various camping areas (6 seperate locations) for both the caravaners and the campers. Sites are well defined and there is a walk to suit all abilities. All in all a beautiful place and well worth a visit. NB A fee is payable for an overnight stay but very inexpensive and it will help preserve the area.

Years of family memories & camping in the area. Great to watch its growth since the fires of 2009. We find the peace and quiet the best thing. Nothing better than the tranquil sounds of nature and fresh drinkable water from the Murrindindi creek. Lots of native animals around such as Lyrebirds, Echidnas, Wombats, Lizards and more.

We camped at Bull Creek camp. The problem with a camp that has toilets and easy access is the people it attracts. This spot cannot be classed as peaceful am secluded. Kept up 2 nights by immature drunks in tents. If you want a peaceful, relaxing stay DONT STAY HERE. This would be a day trip only. We planned on staying 4 nights at this spot, but left in 2. Our sons push bike was also stolen which was disappointing. On a good note though, the Wilhelmina Falls was worth the walk. View and waterfall was fantastic. However nice this spot is, we will not be returning.

It doesn't matter which route you approach this beautiful scenic area. On this occasion, my wife, 3yo daughter and 14 month old son packed ourselves into our trusty outback and made the comfortable drive from Mernda which took approximately 1 hour. Upon reaching Kinglake, much of the drive this day involved being trapped within a think blanket of fog. When reaching SEC camping ground car park we could see the sun attempting to break free from the clouds and it was freezing! Good thing we were well prepared with plenty of tasty food and warm clothes. It was from this location we set out with a child each upon our backs crossing the Murrindindi River towards Wilhelmina Falls along Wilhelmina track. The walk was quite easy for approximately the first 2 km before moving away from the river so to begin ascending towards higher ground. With that said, this walk is still very possible to complete with small children as long as you wear good sturdy shoes and enjoy some good old fashion technical placement of your feet when climbing. There are places where chains have been placed to assist you and upon reaching the Falls there are stairs with handrails which provide handy to people requiring an extra hand getting up close and personal to what you will witness to be such spectacular waterfalls indeed! From here we had found ourselves above the cloud line with blue skies and sunshine. It was beautiful! My wife with son turned back when reaching the stair section however my daughter and I pushed on to reach the picnic table area at the top of the Falls for some extra photographic activities and the sense of accomplishment. Out and back from here totalled 6km. After lunch we continued on for about 10km in the car to explore Murrindindi Cascades. From the car park, these Falls are approximately 200-300m away. You can hear them from the road upon arriving. The walk follows a number of stairs decending downwards along the Murrindindi River to some observation points. The word spectacular again comes to mind when describing these Falls. For the more adventurous, there are a lot more trails out here to explore along with camping areas if you wish to stay awhile. Permits are required and can be purchased at stations along the road within the reserve. Most camping areas have drop toilets nearby. We look forward to returning again to explore more.

The cascades are soooooooooooo worth a visit. Not a long walk at all and so peaceful and pretty. The children and i loved clambering over the rocks, dipping our feet in the water and picnicing by the cascades. There are also other sections of the river where the children could play in the water which was so cool and fresh! We spent 2 days there (not camping however there are camping facilities... we stayed in Yea and drove out each day - not far!) The highlight of my time spent in Yea!

This is a great place to spend the day. There are two waterfalls in the area, a suspension bridge and several well appointed picnic and camping areas along the Murrindindi River. The walk to the Murrindindi Cascades is quite easy. After you park the car in the car park and picnic area you walk back across the road and follow the walking track down to the falls. There are several steel stairs to walk down and a viewing platform/bridge to get a great view of the cascades. The distance is 0.6km return taking around 45 minutes to complete. The walk to Wilhelmina Falls is quite harder and very steep. There are lots of fallen trees to climb over and some large boulders which have steel poles and chains attached to help you over them. It took us around 1hr to reach the falls, but well worth our efforts. When you reach the falls there are steel stairs which take you to the top of the falls and onto the Murrindindi River Walking track. All the areas are well signed so getting around is easy. The road is unsealed but suitable for 2WD cars. The falls are best view during Spring or after heavy rain in the area.
Location: Off the Murrindindi Road on Wilhelmina Falls Road around an 18 minute drive from Glenburn or around 25 minutes drive from Yea in Victoria.
