The various ‘12 Apostle’ related sites are essentially spread out over about 20 km - so a leisurely approach is to do them over 2 days; which is what we are doing. The first stop was the Bay of Martyrs which offered a different landscape / perspective of the cliffs and coastline.

This is part of the Ship Wreck Coast along the Great Ocean Road. It is nearer the end beyond Port Campbell so less well visited than the Twelve Apostles and Loch Ard Gorge etc. it is worth the effort. You can get into the beach down a few steps.

Effectively the Bay of Martyrs is the same as Bay of Islands. Same stacks offshore providing the scenery it's just that Bay of Martyrs has the views more from the eastern end towards Peterborough.

There is an OK amount of parking though I found that along the Great Ocean Road you are best to get an early start and thereby be ahead of the conveyor belt people. It would appear too that by the time they've stopped at a range of other places along the coast some people are having sightseeing fatigue by the time they make it this far and there is less demand on the parking available.

There are some information boards here and some good views though the direction of the light and the nature of the weather will obviously impact your experience. You get a more distant view of the stacks from here too.

Stunning views. Would highly recommend bay of martyrs. There’s some other view points like worm bay nearby. Parking is available too.

Dare I say it but I think this is better than the 12 Apostles!! Amazing views of the coastline and steps onto the beach for more amazing photos.

The Bay of Martyrs is fairly easy to find. There's a big, brown tourist attraction sign saying Bay of Martyrs. If you are travelling West it is after the other big, brown tourist sign welcoming you to the Bay of Martyrs and Bay of Islands. Beware, though. There are several turn-offs into car parks between the two signs. These, I believe, are for access to other nearby beaches. If you want to visit the Bay of Martyrs wait for the sign.

The Bay of Martyrs is a smallish bay with a sandy beach, a few rocks in the water and a few rock on the beach. It is not as spectacular as its neighbour, the Bay of Islands, but it's well worth a stop if you have the time. The beach looks nice but I didn't go down there as it was cold and I was, by this point, somewhat exhausted and I still had other places to visit and more kilometres to drive.

If you want to see as much as possible then this is another interesting stop. Once again the views are wonderful and everything along the coast has its place. Worth the stop but if you are in a hurry, pick this between bay of islands as although they are different, they have similarities.

Just another lookout of the coast which seems endless. Easy walk to the platform and nice size car park too.
A must see place.

Visited in September 2021, exiting Winter. The southern swells roared.
IMHO this is near the best spot on Great Ocean Road (even marking its western entrance).
Amazing rock features, bay design and wild-bashed beach. Nature at stormy best.
Looked rearward to see some lucky few 2-storey houses beyond the road captured this daily view of wonder.
