Pretty disappointed in the Milawa Cheese Company,we attended at 2.30 pm on Saturday Jan 23 and hoping to get a meal, only to be rudely and abruptly told by an older staff member that the kitchen was closed,i wish i had got her name, she had no people skills and shouldnt be working with the public.
Now given this was basically the Australia Day long weekend and us city slickers have been encouraged to support regional Victoria wouldnt you have thought that the kitchen would be open until at least 4pm for light meals, coffees etc, clearly they dont need the money from the kitchen given the outlandish prices of the cheese, meats and other items that could still be purchased within the deli area.
Our group werent the only ones oustounded by the kitchen not being open

We're sorry that you were disappointed. Please note that the Milawa Kitchen is a seperate business to Milawa Cheese Co. In our experience, the businesses of regional Victoria are very glad of your support, and trying our best to keep up with increased demand. We appreciate your understanding as we all adapt to this new situation.

I last went to Milawa Cheese 2 or so years ago and you could not just try the cheese but the cheese platters you could enjoy in the deck were fabulous. Sadly it would appear neither are currently available. The cafe part didn’t do platters and said you can’t eat platters bought from the cheese section on the deck. In the cheese section the ‘take away’ platter for $30 was prox. Wouldn’t waste my money. Sad.

Rang to organise cheese tasting. Was told over the phone that the cheese tasting costed $10 per person which was refundable on purchase of cheese and needed to be booked. Did the booking and unfortunately I had to reschedule the tasting time couple of times which they accommodated. I had told them that I was pregnant and if it was still ok to taste their cheeses. I was told that yes and all their cheeses were pasteurised.
We arrived the factory around 15 mins earlier than our scheduled time and was taken to the tasting table. I was given 3 cheeses to taste for $10 and my husband had around 8 cheeses for $10. The cheeses were already set on the table and had no idea how long they were sitting there for under the heater.
A young girl came in and read the details of each cheese from their flyer which I could have done and was unable to provide any other information outside the flyer. Very pleasant young lady but the cheese company need to improve on their tasting experience if they are going to charge.
Had they told me that I was going to get only 3 cheeses to taste for $10, I would have definitely not booked the tasting. And the information about refundable tasting cost upon purchase was inaccurate. It was disappointing specially that we had driven 1.5hr to get to the tasting.

Don't bother with the tasting. It costs the same as just buying the tasting platter and adds zero value (apart from losing 15 minutes of your life that you'll never get back).
The explanation was delivered with neither charm nor knowledge of cheese at breakneck speed.
What a pity - there was so much opportunity to do this well (or even badly would have been better...)

2 couples visiting from ACT went hoping to enjoy a great cheese factory experience but were greatly disappointed. The range of cheeses available for purchase from the shop was limited and expensive, granted that they are handmade. So we didn’t purchase any. A factory tour was only available if booked 24hours in advance which was a pity. So we ventured into the bakery section at the cheese factory and purchased 2 vanilla slices for the princely sum of $15!!!! While they were lovely the cost left a bad taste in our mouth particularly as later in the day we visited a bakery in another town and bought a large pastie, sausage roll and two coffees for $17. Additionally one couple purchased a pain au chocolate which VERY light in the chocolate department-see attached pic.

Hi there. Just a note to advise that we do read your reviews, thank you, and we use them to improve what we do. Both Milawa Cheese and our neighbours Milawa Bread pride ourselves on handmade artisanal produce, which does come at a price. Thank you for visiting, and I'm sorry we weren't the right fit for you at this time.

No longer a must visit destination. Milawa Cheese used to be so special but it has gone downhill with a don’t care attitude trading on a past reputation. Stopped today - small choice of sandwich fillings for lunch - chicken schnitzel toasted sandwich at $15 ridiculous.
No cheese tasting, smaller range of cheeses for purchase. No goodwill there at all. It used to have such a wow factor and owners will be quite surprised when they realise the public have worked it out. Gift shop goods were ordinary.
I bought 2 smallKing Valley Gold cheeses and 2 small half rounds of Brie for $78. Seems quite expensive.

Thank you for visiting Milawa Cheese and our neighbours at Milawa Kitchen and WattleTree Collection. Please note that the cheese shop, cafe and gift shop are three seperate businesses. We do share a vision of providing good value for artisanal produce, and a friendly visitor experience - your feedback will help us in this aim.
Unfortunately, the health regulations associated with COVID-19 mean that Milawa Cheese Co is currently unable to offer free tastings of cheese. We now offer a guided tasting experience in our COVID-safe tasting room environment, available by pre-booking for $14pp, and tasting trays to take away, priced at $10.
Our cheese is handmade from local produce on-site; we hope that after tasting it you can appreciate the care and skill that goes into every cheese we produce.

Unfriendly staff -disappointing visit.
We love cheese and were so looking forward to our visit. However on arrival we discussed that the only tasting available were tiny platters for self tasting with no information available about the cheese or production method. The charge seemed exorbitant, $10 for a teaspoon worth of a few cheeses ( no more than 40 gms total) and $30 for a spoonful of a few cheeses. The staff seemed frustrated, tired and seemed to not care for customer service. Although the shop was well appointed and the cheeses did look delicious, the service was so poor that I could not be bothered to explore what they had on offer and was quite happy to get the hell out of there.

We went into wine tasting and sharrine very knowledgeable and friendly. We then bought a cheese platter in the cheese factory which is good value then we entered the cafe for a sweet and coffee snd the lady serving was more interested in telling us we were not allowed to consume the platter in there rather than friendly service. Felt very unwelcome

Brought visiting family here, and am embarrassed I did. I’d talked up the cheese tasting, and intended to buy loads as I have done with previous visits, only to find they now charge $10 for the most measly sad little plate of dried around the edges samples. They even make sure to count out the eight crackers to go with it.
I can buy Milawa cheese at my local IGA, but I won’t be any more. We came to buy as well as for the experience, which has been very effectively ruined. Good job, hope the $10 sting was worth it to you.

We appreciate that you advocated to friends and family about visiting Milawa Cheese Co, thank you.
COVID-safe regulations mean that we are unable to offer free tastings as we used to, and we have had to develop a new way. We aim to offer a taste of our handmade product, and an enjoyable experience, whilst maintaining a COVID-safe environment. We will use your feedback to help us improve this offer.

Great artisan cheeses, lots of great produce and helpful well trained staff. We loved that you could buy a tasting tray with eight cheeses, a knife, napkin, grapes and crackers for only $10 ! It came with tasting notes and is the perfect way to find your favourite cheese. We purchased relishes and other goods and were very pleased with them all.
