A unique experience staying at the Quarantine station. You are transported to your room in a mini bus. Nice community feel with very comfortable modern accommodation. Delicious food and great service at the Boilerhouse restaurant, but our table did not have a view. Alfresco Breakfast was fresh and plentiful, and had to keep an eye out for the Kookaburras who... A great place for the whole family. Bringing history to life, this is a must visit for everyone who loves Australia. The site is hilly and requires a certain level of fitness to get around. There is a free mini-bus from the reception to the museum building, cafe and wharf running around 15 minutes apart. This is a free attraction... More

We stayed here for 2 nights and we had a front room overlooking the harbour. The place is quite spread out so there is plenty of walking to do. We ate at the boiler house and the dinner was pretty special .. We would come back. Might be hot in Jan/Feb as the rooms only have fans.

Worth doing a tour to get the full benefit. Fascinating to learn about quarantine and that it was still going on into the 1980's! Brilliant insight into recent history with very knowledgeable guide. The setting itself is quite beautiful with views across the harbour. We got the bus from Manly but you can also get a fast ferry from Sydney... More

I've done a few ghost tours here and overseas. This one, like the Beechworth Asylum and Port Arthur night tour, is one where you walk into and through the buildings rather than just an informative walk like some others. The guides are exceptionally engaging and matter of fact and provide interaction and atmosphere. I highly recommend it if you are... More

Stayed overnight here which really allowed us to fully experience the special qualities of this place. Well recommended you can visit as a day tripper but it is better to stay a night. We did not do the ghost tour but that sounded interesting.

Very interesting to walk around and it links in with the other trails in the sanctuary. Enjoyable day spent although make sure you allow for the weather as not much shade or shelter.

Went on evening ghost tour was very spooky though the concentration on purely supernatural events becomes a little tiresome because the buildings and history are fascinating in themselves enough would like to visit in daytime

The historical aspect of the place, the set aside tea rooms, the wonderfully maintained lawns and gardens, the harbour views, the tasty brekky, the spooky atmosphere upon and after dusk plus the evening dining with energetic waiter running up and down the stairs.

This is an incredible place. I've been there many times and never tire of it. In a Sydney that is constantly developing and changes this a place where you feel you have gone back into the past, the way Sydney ways in the early days. Amazing views, open space, cliffs, amazing stories, ghosts and nature. There is another like it... More

Staying in Manly

Neighbourhood Profile
Manly
A 40-minute ferry ride from Circular Quay will take you to the famous northern beach of Manly. The beaches here are perfect for learning to surf or spending the day sun-tanning. The walk from Spit Bridge to Manly is a great way to experience Sydney Harbour Bay and the Australian bush land. Along the foreshore, there are plenty of watering holes and wine bars with excellent cuisine. There are plenty of kid-friendly restaurants as well, especially along the family-oriented areas like Shelly Beach. An excellent way to experience Manly is to rent a bike and explore the dedicated bike paths and off road trails. The North Head National Park is another must-see. Located on the southern tip of Manly, North Head National Park offers great bushwalks and panoramic views of the city.
