Lovely gardens
Sep 2021
A delightful spot - with an interesting and colourful walled garden and some wonderful woodland with plenty of laid out paths. Hydrangas were providing lots of colour and interest on a recent visit

Fantastic day out
Sep 2021 • Family
We had a thoroughly enjoyable day yesterday at Picton Gardens. Beautiful dog friendly garden’s with a lovely walled garden and ginger areas planted very imaginatively interspersed with Salvia and hydrangeas. Really great coffee on arrival at Maria’s followed by lunch later in the day. Exceptionally clean and very tasty, fresh food. Lots of plants for sale in the courtyard and we enjoyed the Eagles flying at 3pm despite the rain. Well worth a visit for young, old and four legged furries!

Family day out - changeable weather??
Sep 2021 • Family
We chose Picton castle as a day out because it was billed as a venue to enjoy in good or bad weather. We had a fantastic day! The gardens are beautiful and have a wide variety of activities to keep you interested. We had a dog, a child under 5 and some older people in our group and there was definitely something for everyone to enjoy.

The castle is a guided tour which was very interesting if not a bit short. You only get to see a few rooms. It’s not full access unfortunately.

But there was also a falconry display to watch. The ‘zoo’ isn’t a zoo. Rather a variety of aviaries and a handful of mammals to see. But it was very interesting throughout. Thoroughly enjoyable and would go again!

Dog friendly too

MARIA@PICTON is AMAZING!!!
Jul 2021
The gardens and castle were lovely but the hightlight by far was Maria's restaurant which was outstanding! The spanish themed food was delicious, so much so that my husband and I returned for morning snacks, lunch then afternoon cake and coffee. The range of vegan options was wonderful, all freshly prepared and beautifully presented. We wanted to sample every dish but there wasn't enough hours in the day! To make the experience even more special were the simply delightful staff. Maria herself is wonderful along with the others chefs and staff. It was a very busy hot day with lots of demanding guests but all the staff remained unflappable and eager to help everyone. We would strongly recommend Maria's as a desitnation for great food and a warm inclusive welcome. We will be back to try the rest of the food.

Lovely day out
Jun 2021 • Friends
We had a lovely day at Picton Castle and Gardens. We were lucky with the weather which helped, but there is lots to see and do and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. I toured the castle which was very interesting and our guide was very knowledgeable.

Food in the courtyard cafe was tasty but unfortunately service was so slow that we missed the otter talk. I did get a brief glimpse of one of the otters before it disappeared inside.

There are lots of birds of prey to see including owls, kestrels, hornbills and eagles and we enjoyed the bird of prey show. The gardens were lovely, especially in the sunshine. Definitely recommended for a day out if you’re nearby.

Great day trip

This is an interesting place to visit. The animals were of great interest to the kids, especially the activities. We watched a great flying display and held some reptiles. The gardens were very attractive with the walled garden/fernery/herb garden of particular interest. We didn’t go inside the house (which is an additional charge) as my children are small, but it looked impressive from the outside. This is not a busy attraction and it allowed us to relax with the family and take things a little slower

nice walks
Aug 2021
spent a good few hours here, A guided tour around the house/castle. the guide was very informative and friendly. There is an extra charge of £6 to tour the house. The gardens were a delight to walk around, especially the walled garden, The owl zoo was interesting with a lot of different birds, also a display of falconry is on twice a day. We never used the restaurant just found somewhere nice and quiet for our picnic.
