The Metal Museum in Memphis, Tennessee is the only Museum of its kind in the United Sates. The Museum grounds consist of 3 and a half acres of land directly over looking the Mississippi River just south of downtown Memphis. On the grounds you will find a sculpture garden, a fully functioning blacksmith shop and foundry, a library holding our permanent collection, and our main Museum which houses rotating exhibitions of emerging and established metalsmiths worldwide. The Metal Museum is the only institution in the United States devoted exclusively to the advancement of the art and craft of fine metal work. This is achieved through exhibitions, collections, conservation, restoration and consulting services, classes, internship and apprenticeship opportunities, and artist residencies. The value of the Metal Museum extends well beyond its exhibitions and facilities recognizing and promoting the careers of metalsmiths.

A good way to spend 2 hours for Father's Day with a dad who welds but not the most thrilling The forging and casting demos were interesting and informative

Cool place to visit for something different. Two teenagers weren't very impressed but, hey, they are teenagers. They rated it a 2 while the parents rated 3-4. Glad we went just to say we did.

This was a neat little place, a little out of the way but worth it. The museum was nice, but the best part was the demonstrations, the guy was knowledgeable and it was interesting watching him form a hook and how he did the different elements. Worth a trip, try if you can to make the demonstrations at 2:30 and... More

This is not a large museum but interesting. It is in a beautiful setting. They have some things for sale and you can watch them working while you are there

The admission was more than I would have liked to pay for the museum, since it was relatively small and you could see everything in just a few minutes. There were some pieces I enjoyed looking at and I have some nice pictures for my book, but if you are short on time or funds, this is one you can... More

A very cool museum, if you like museums. We Do. Indoor and outdoor pieces, a Blacksmith shop, that's active, and producing work. Not just huge pieces! Some very interesting things to see, and, it's on the Mississippi River! Oh yeah, it's relatively inexpensive - $6!
