What a great find is this Cricket Pavilion with the Camera Obscura which was gifted to the town by one of its sons, JM Barrie so that we could all share in its magic. It doesn’t disappoint. The Camera Obscura mechanism keeps you riveted and brings back the wonder of childhood at any age. This is further enhanced by the friendly and knowledgeable volunteers that show you round and answer your questions. There is also room for a small café with great baking and fresh coffee and tea. Outside the building the magic continues the stunning views and a play park based on the Peter Pan story. This August there is also some flower art on the grass. All in all, a wonderful day out. Thanks, in particular to Irena for her infectious enthusiasm and support of the local community. We will be back.

Had a lovely picnic in the well kept park area & then visited the camera obscura. It was really fascinating & the guide was very welcoming & knowledgeable. Even on a cloudy day we saw great views. It is staffed by volunteers & you make a donation for your visit. The tearoom looked cozy & inviting (they allow dogs; but they’re not allowed in the camera room). It is a wee gem.
We then visited JM Barrie’s grave in the adjacent cemetery. Kirriemuir is a pleasant place to visit.

Warmly welcomed by friendly local volunteers whose infectious enthusiasm made it a very special experience. The Cameta Obscura itself is unexpectedly magical.

Great coffee and delicious homemade cake.

Go here to experience some of the real Scotland.

Can't believe I have lived in the area for many years and never been to this amazing pavilion to see the camera obscura ! But yesterday changed all that when family members invited me to go with them
I was a bit concerned about access due to my mobility issues...
However, I managed the stairs which are on 3 levels..hand rails at each side, otherwise I wouldn't have managed without !
Once up in the camera room, we were given a short talk on KM Barrie, pavilion and the camera ..all very impressive ...was sunshine initially which made the pictures brilliant, then it rained which dulled the images
Great scenic views of the surrounding countryside and of parts of the town..
Glad I made the effort to go visit it !
So if you have a mobility issue ...go now whilst you are able for the stairs!
A friendly welcome awaits at the cafe which is run by volunteers ....tea, coffee etc if you want to spend longer there ..Beautiful view from the pavilion.
Parking no issues, Disabled at the entrance to the pavilion, and plenty other parking out with....
Glad I went having lived in the area for many years !
Well worth the visit, so don't put it off too long whilst you are able! .

Spent a lovely hour or so visiting the Camera Obscura. We had a fabulous 360 degee view despite the clouds. Ron is a mine of information and he shared his knowledge of the area and it's history. He also shared interesting facts regarding Kirriemuir's famous sons, Sir J M Barrie (Peter Pan), and Bon Scott (AC/DC). All followed with a nice cuppa in the cafe.

Many thanks to Ron and the lovely lady in the cafe.

Short and sweet visit to the Camera Obscura. It was great and Ron took the time to explain it all to us alongside some good wee facts about JM Barrie and the cricket! We were only in there around 30 minutes but it was great and really fab to see the views on such a clear day. Run by volunteers with a quaint well-priced cafe inside. Contributions are voluntary but it all goes back into the local community so worth giving generously. Thanks to Ron and all the volunteers for keeping this wonder going!

Well worth a visit! Irena was really knowledgeable and it was great to stand in the midst of J M Barrie history. Had a lovely cuppy and cake while we were waiting. Planning a return trip during better weather though this didn't detract from our visit

Impressive, volunteer run, attraction. The lovely male volunteer who demonstrated the camera obscura was so friendly and knowledgeable. I then enjoyed a cuppa and scone in the fantastic value café - I'm coeliac, which they catered for impressively well with 3 cake options ❤️. An all-round 5🌟 experience

We were on our way back from playing golf and saw the sign for this gem. Dedicated and very knowledgeable volunteers run the attraction. Very well worth visiting as you can see over 70 miles on a clear day. If you are in the are don't miss this or JMBarries grave nearby.

Despite a rather dull day we were still able to enjoy the 360 degree view and the informative commentary by the guardian of this special feature tucked away in Kirriemuir, Scotland.
We were made very welcome and enjoyed our
visit. A must-see if you are lucky enough to be in the area.
