We tried the cafe for lunch, the food was nice but expensive and we were disappointed that there are no views and thought that the eating area should have been put on the other side, overlooking the harbour (where the last room attached to the museum is). The staff in the cafe seemed to still be finding their feet. Interesting... More

Gorgeous, and modern coffee shop which has great food, friendly staff and is perfect for a coffee after a day on your feet. It's open Sunday too!

Currently being renovated into accommodation - the main rooms are complete and lovely to walk through.. The castle ground are a delight to walk through and finish at the castle coffee shop for a nice bowl of homemade soup on a chilly day.

The castle itself is not outstanding in itself, but two things make this a worthwhile visit. The grounds - magnificent with lovely long walks through forest and hillside with fantastic views across the island and down to Stornoway. The museum - must-do attraction, if only to actually see some of the Lewis chessmen up close!

The Lews Castle is a great place to visit, to see the lovely rooms of the castle it's self & the museum, well worth a visit. The down side is the cafe attached. I have been a couple of times and despite giving them time to improve service it has failed to materialise. Most recently wee visited on a Sunday... More

A very comprehensive museum which is free and should be given (in my opinion) a donation on exit. The video display is amazing and the general information about the island , particularly the video talks by members of the population extremely interesting.

Enjoyed visiting the gardens of the Castle. Visited the museum on the local history and culture. The grounds are definitely worth while walking around, as you get to see follies and different views of the castle. Worth the walk.

This was a run a found by accident when staying. Really excellent varied run with a decent gravel path. Superb views and traffic free. We'll sign posted. Follow signs for forest cafe. Can't get lost circular route. Add on the war memorial for extra ascent. Well worth the view.

Lews Castle is still under construction, but there is a modest exhibition and the most impressive exhibit to me is the room you can sit in the center and experience the changing seasons of the Outer Hebrides. Other exhibits include several of the Lewis chessmen and a Harris tweed wedding dress.

The Castle has opened after a long closure. We went to the cafeteria for lunch and were disappointed. We had a long wait and were disappointed with a poor offering. Hopefully they may improve their offering. We didn't visit the new museum on this occasion.
