A lovely nature reserve with a nice trail to the wildlife observation hide. After the hide the paths are less clear and not as well marked. Still a lovely area to explore

Beautiful reserve with different kinds of walks - woodland, estuary and loch. We saw salmon leaping right out of the water, lovely views to the lighthouse and the wooded path gave us much needed shade on a very sunny day. There are no facilities which is a shame. The single track road out to the estuary has plenty of passing places and good visibility.

We visited the beach near Embo to see the seals. We didn't walk much as we were with my father who is elderly and has limited mobility. There were more seals than the last time we visited, so it seems that the colony is thriving! The following evening our relies took us to the other side where the bird hide is. This area was much larger than I had thought. We saw an osprey's nest and watched the dusk fall in the bird hide. Beautiful walk through the woods and we had the place to ourselves while we were there. Heaven.

Probably one of the best nature reserves I’ve ever been to. Everything from woodland, the Loch, river, sea and beach. Even in winter it’s still a beautiful place to visit, even if most of the wildlife was hiding. It’s meant to be a great place to see otters, seals, pine martens and even dolphins but we couldn’t catch a glimpse. There’s a good sized bird hide at the end of the Balblair Wood walk, too. Must visit in summer!

Another great walk in the Golspie area spoiled by inconsiderate dog walkers not picking up after their dogs. Shame it happens all to often

Loch Fleet Nature Reserve is a huge wooded area surrounding the mudflats of the Loch.
It has a narrow road, just off the A9 running all around it,with passing points and a few parking places along its length(signposted "scenic route")
Great place for spotting many types of birds, including migratory birds and quite often seals are spotted just off the shoreline on the sandbanks.
Peaceful, tranquil environ which is worth an hour or two of your time either just sitting and spotting or strolling through the woods and paths, admiring the stunning scenery.

We came south leaving the A9 at the sign for "Skelbo" and whilst the road isnt, in places, particularly wide, the sign posts are "passing places" and parking areas. When the tide is out at Loch Fleet there are sand banks, close to the shore which allow those prepared to stop and get out of their vehicles a close up of Seals relaxing on the sand bank. Perhaps a privilege for those of us who dont live near to seal sanctuaries and the like to see these creatures in a more natural habitat. Take this in its well worth seeing...a few miles further on you end up in Dornoch complete with cafes, beach and cathedral. well worth the drive

We went having been told there would be lots of seals, sadly only 3, but fun watching them bobbing about.
Good parking and there were luckily bins in the car park for all the plastic we picked up from the beach. I couldn't bring myself to pick up the dog poo bag that someone had left on tbe path a day or two before by the look of it, no gloves or stick handy. Why do people do that go to all the trouble of bagging it in PLASTIC and then dumping tbat in the beach.
Great though watching the tide really running out of the Loch, it put paid to my hopes of a swim those are some serious currents, make sure you time it for slack water between tides if you want to get wet.
The water was so clear it was hard to resist.
