We really enjoyed our trip to the Kings caves. It was just a minor diversion as it only took us an hour and 10 minutes round trip. The sign says it is a 2 and a half hour walk; granted I'm not a slow walker but for it to take so long would imply a lunch stop or a period... More

started at blackwaterfroot, walked to the golf coarse and then cut up over the moors before we started our descent to the waterfront, then along to the caves, however on our way back we took the beech route back to our hotel, fantastic day out, would do again

3 mile, picturesque walk, cliff top, beach, wooded area. We set off to the Right of the information board. Possibly the easier route? The cave itself- well it's a Cave!

We initially stopped off to walk to the Standing Stones however on getting to the car park and seeing the amount of sheep we would need to walk close to we decided it was best to go else where due to having a dog. A few miles down the road and we set off for the kings caves with the... More

I loved this place so much!! You have a wee walk until you reach the sea and actually see the caves but it's worth it. I took grandma there and she also loved it although the way was a bit tough for her as you need to walk up and down the mountain to arrive. 🔝

On a recent visit my friend who lives locally took me on the walk that circles the forest and goes onto the beach where you find the entrance to the caves. Would have been difficult to find on my own I think. Nice walk though with fairly easy path all round. A bit of a steep rocky climb from the... More

Don't miss this (unless the weather's bad, in which case skip it!). From the well-signposted car park on the Machrie road, following the path out of the right hand side of the car park. It traces the edge of the forest and gives glorious views along the coast and over to the northern mainland, before sloping sharply down to beach... More
