About
Set in the heart of Falkland conservation village, and surrounded by extensive gardens, this partly restored Renaissance palace is the perfect place to while away an afternoon. Certificate of Excellence 2014 Winner Falkland Palace Part of the Palace is in ruins but the original and reconstructed rooms are packed with 17th-century Flemish tapestries, elaborate painted ceilings and antique furnishings. The beautiful, tranquil grounds are worth a visit alone. They are home to the oldest Real or Royal tennis court in Britain, built for King James the V. The grounds also include ruins of the 12th century Castle of Falkland, extensive gardens designed by Percy Cane and an ancient Orchard with a wild flower meadow. Please note the Shop, Palace & Gardens are open 1 March to 31 October.

    Hunting lodge
A former hunting lodge, used by various members of the Royal family, including Mary Queen of Scots. Now managed by the National Trust for Scotland, which has refurbished and furnished the rooms with attention to period detail. Watch out for the bed in the King's room. Just before the tapestry corridor.

    Beautiful, exceeded expectations
Falkland in Fife is a beautiful old town in Scotland with the special vibe. The castle is the same. Interesting setting and preservation. Nice rooms, a superb chapel and a very nice garden. Tucked in the garden seems to be the oldest tennis court in the world. The legend sais Queen Mary herself played there. Very calm and simple English garden. Scottish for the locals…

    Beautiful Furniture
Beautifully maintained castle and gardens. Enjoyed looking at the furniture of the castle. The guides will tell you about the stories of these furniture. Beautiful piece of art. Also I was surprised to know that the actual keeper still lives there !

    Fantastic palace ghost tour
Tonight we went to the ghost tour at Falkland Palace, our tour guide Grant was absolutely fantastic, his historical knowledge and stories brought the palace to life, he was superb! Being in the palace after hours was fantastic, we had a brilliant time. Definitely recommend

    Fife gem
We'd walked Falkland Estate a few times but never the Palace. Rectified now, and well worth the visit. So much more to see than we thought, guides knowledge was excellent and informative, beautiful architecture, furniture and tapestries and outside there are gardens, orchard and walks. We love finding little gems like this. Go and enjoy for yourselves!

    A Hidden Gem
This was one of the very best palaces we have been too and I will tell you why: the hospitality in Scotland is amazing and visiting the palace, garden, and gift shop was exceptional. In every room we went into there was a guide to personally answer any questions we had. They were friendly and knowledgeable. The gardens were beautifully kept and a unique sight. It smelled amazing and taking in all the visual majesty made one truly feel what the royals of the past must have felt. If you want this feeling visit Faulkland palace and gardens.

Guides were a little intrusive and rather loud!! As a practicing Catholic, I found the totally lack of awareness of the Blessed Sacrament in the chapel by the guide amazing. The gardens are peaceful and serene.

Visited on a horrible day weather wise so we wanted something interesting to do. We weren't disappointed, although this isn't a large "palace" there's quite a bit to see and the volunteers were super friendly, knowledgeable and eager to bring the property to life, their grasp of dates, lines of succession etc amazing. Thank you

We were pushed for time but found the guides in each room very informative. Give a good 2 hours to do it justice bigger than we expected. Pictures not allowed but inside was lovely. Will go back to do it justice.

The palace and gardens are amazing. The room guides were very knowledgeable and helpful. The flower beds, borders and gardens are beautiful. Loved the ‘physic’garden.
An extra thank you to the kind and helpful staff who helped with a poorly member of our group.

This was one of the favourite palaces that Mary Queen of Scots visited and although you can’t take photographs inside, it really is worth seeing. The furniture and whole debit is amazing and the guides give you a detailed description and history of each room. There are a lot of narrow stairs between the floors but don’t let that put you off. The grounds are beautifully maintained and there are the original tennis courts for what is called “real tennis” that Mary used to play here. The courts are still used today. There is a small gift shop but no cafe or tea room. However there are lots of places to choose from close by. The parking is free just a short walk from the Palace and us well sign posted. A super place to visit.
