Set in the heart of Falkland conservation village, and surrounded by extensive gardens, this partly restored Renaissance palace is the perfect place to while away an afternoon.

Falkland Palace

Part of the Palace is in ruins but the original and reconstructed rooms are packed with 17th-century Flemish tapestries, elaborate painted ceilings and antique furnishings.

The beautiful, tranquil grounds are worth a visit alone. They are home to the oldest Real or Royal tennis court in Britain, built for King James the V.

The grounds also include ruins of the 12th century Castle of Falkland, extensive gardens designed by Percy Cane and an ancient Orchard with a wild flower meadow

Visited in September 2016. A favourite place of Mary, Queen of Scots. I could almost feel her tragic presence. Especially in the chapel and her bedroom. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The grounds were beautiful and worth the stroll through them. Only downside is that no photos allowed inside the castle. I was told it still is a... More

We visited Falkland palace on a rainy day looking for something inside, the people were very helpful and informative. Any one who have watched the outlander series will recognise Falkland village. We came across this purely by accident any thourghly enjoyed our visit.

The day we visited was fairly quiet and we arrived early in the morning, parking in the village was a short stroll to the Palace. All the guides were very knowledgeable and we were not rushed round from room to room. I was in Scotland researching some of my family history and even learned something that day which was of... We went through the National Trust card, so the price wasn't an issue, but I do think it was circa £16? Anyway. Not pram friendly, but can leave the baby wheels at the constantly manned front-desk. Once in the Palace it's a stunning place - retained from the originals. Great tour guides and knowledge folk dotted around the place willing... More

It's quite odd to find a palace in such a small village but well worth the visit. The staff are excellent, very knowledgeable, interesting and they obviously care about the place. There's lots to look at in the palace itself but the gardens are great as well (even in October in the rain). There's even a royal tennis court which... More

Falkland town and it's palace in a lovely old fashioned place. The little town is very picturesque with the palace just off the street. Looks like a fairy palace, but once inside, takes the visitor back in time. The guides make it really interesting with some great stories ( found out where the 'naughty chair') came from! You could spend... More

Even though it was Autumn and won an overcast day, I enjoyed coming here. The staff in each room were good at explaining why the room was interesting and he history. I'm amazed at how young these monarchs and wives were when they died. If they were young (40's and early 50's) then what about the peasant in the field.
