The castle was built in the 13th century, possibly by William, Earl Marshall. Originally, the castle formed a square, with large corner towers. Only half of the castle now remains.

The stories and history of Ferns Castle came to life with the guides' insight and passion. We toured Ireland for two weeks, and met a few tour guides along the route, but the gentlemen who guided this one, were top notch. Fantastic!

A very historic site with significant pre Norman importance. The guide, a former Garda, was enthusiastic and relatively knowledgable.
