Walking the Aran Islands requires a good deal of uphill walking on very uneven and unpaved areas. The hike up to the ruins of the old fort is not for those with weak legs or sore feet, however, if you make it, the views are...More

Inisheer is an almost mystical island. It's rugged landscape is bejewelled by low rock walls, unchanged through hundreds of years, which encircle grazing patches in seemingly endless rings. Arguably best seen by horse-drawn carts which afford the perfect pace and allow the eye to fully...More

A well traveled Irish woman told me that Inisheer (Inis Oerr) is her favorite Aran Island. So we took the ferry there and had a wonderful day. I recommend taking the horse drawn wagon to get an overview of the island. The wagons will be...More

We chose Inisheer for our Aran Islands experience and spent most of our five hours there walking. We started up the hill to the castle and then headed southwest almost to the lighthouse. We then walked along the coast in the direction of the pier...More

We went for the day to the island of Inis Oirr from Doolin. We were very lucky with the weather as it was beautiful and spent the day walking around the island. It really is a haven of tranquility and a stunning place. However, our...More
