We got here late and only had about 25-30 minutes to visit the museum, but we got the general gist of the city's roots, the era of a divided Tennessee, some Civil War knowledge, musical significance and a real trolley. Definitely worth a visit.

impressive for its size but still a small museum. Worth the stop if you are downtown in Knoxville. The people were very nice and it is a great spot to slow down on a hot day and learn a little history.

Very nice museum for $5 for adults, $4 for 55 and older. Permanent display is about the general history of East Tennessee from the perspective of the European settlers with some exhibits on slaves. The special exhibit is on marble quarries in East Tennessee, which is very well done. IF you are town and have a couple of hours, I... More

Being an overseas visitor, I was interested in knowing more about the local history and I was not disappointed. The displays take you through different aspects of Tennessee's history. As there is quite a bit of reading to do, it is probably less suied for younger kids, but other than that I cannot fault it. I thoroughly enjoyed the two... More

Spent an hour walking through museum but, you need to stay for 2 or 3 hours to see everything thoroughly. Very good collection of historical items and displays from east Tennessee history. Each display followed a theme related to native American, early settlers, civil war, farming, mountain life, TVA, industry, music etc. Great display of pharmacy and apothecary shop.

Two hour free parking, two local country groups playing outside, and inside, great music. This place sells discounted tickets to see 8 of the original home in the area, we were able to see 6.

While in Knoxville last month I had some free time, so I went downtown and discovered the East Tennessee Historical Society. Admission was $5 and only $4 with my AAA membership so I decided to check it out. You can easily walk around the museum by following the path. It starts with the native Americans, Cherokee who lived in the... More

This has a lot of different things here The music side was interesting, the rest was standard stuff from Tennessee as opposed to some where else.
