I met a friend for a new place to walk. We parked near the ball fields/batting cages. The park is rather large. It is well maintained & the restrooms are clean & well stocked. We started our walk on the paved trail, but soon ventured off onto the wooded dirt trails. The mountain bike trails are much easier to walk on, but you have to listen for & watch for bikes & GET OUT OF THEIR WAY! The hiking & mountain biking trails are not as well identified as the paved trails so we ended up going all over on all sorts of trails & when we decided we should head back, it was an additional 3/4 mile before we reached our vehicles as we made our way out of the maze of trails. This is definitely a place we will walk again! It is about halfway from both Jonesborough & Bristol so it makes a great spot to meet. In addition, we will be learning the trails for weeks to come.

I took one of my clients to Winged Deer to see what was available as he is new to the area. It’s very peaceful and serene. There is so much to do, or you can do nothing at all. My only minor complaint is that we had to ask where the fishing was. The park was very clean and well maintained. We will be back if they start the movie nights outdoors during the summer.

We often go to Winged deer Park. Whether using a soccer field, walking path, ball field or the play ground and lake facilities this is an excellent facility. Well looked after and something to do for everyone. During summer we go to the lake and launch canoes. Kids swim. You can also fish! Excellent!

Can walk by the lake or through the woods. Sports fields, batting area, basketball goal (in a parking lot).
Great spots for couples to enjoy a picnic.
The only draw back was the abundance of guys having picnics in the fields next to the woods... kinda creeped my date and I out, but nothing happened.
Went during the day, but walking paths seemed as if they would be well lit.
Fishing areas everywhere, including a pier area.

This was one of the worst city parks / local parks we have visited. So many reviews say it is GREAT for picnics (NOT !!). We found very few picnic tables and most of them did NOT HAVE SHADE. The playground looked nice BUT ONCE AGAIN THERE WAS NO SHADE TREES !! Playground equipment and slides GET VERY HOT in the summer without shade. Skip this park if you want a playground or picnic (especially in the summer time)

I have walked the trails, the track around the softball diamonds, the path along the waterway, through the grass, the frisbee golf course. All are well maintained, feel safe, and offer clean, pleasant views. Avoid walking under the highway by the river if you fear bees. The road above is a haven for dozens of hives.
The playground equipment and shelters are good. The open grassy areas are used by pet owners and remote airplane pilots. Sand volleyball gathers crowds.
Bathrooms near soccer fields and the waterway are open seasonally.

I am not sure about "riding" on the boardwalk section but they are everywhere else. Have fun and don't forget the eagles nesting viewed from the boardwalk and online at ETSU eagle cam.
