I certainly wouldn't put this at the top of my "to visit" list but it's a quaint little park on a hill with some good Civil War history. If you're in Franklin and interested in the Civil War, I'd say it's worth taking an hour...More

There are several monuments winding up a small hill. 4 of the monuments are dedicated to the generals that were killed in the Battle of Franklin. At the top of the hill is an overlook where Hood watched his Confederate troops marching toward town. It...More

This was the observation location of Gen Hood as he watched his troops deploy and attack the Federal forces defending Franklin. A number of state monuments are located here as well as information about the battle.

Only disappointment is that the trees in front of the overlook now block the view that General Hood had when he made his fateful decision to attack the Federal entrenchments at Franklin. What must that sight have been?

Took our grandsons (12 and 16 from NYC). Visiting Winstead Hill before taking the walking tour helped them see the field that was marched and fought before getting to the Carter House and the Cotton Gin. Lovely place to walk the dog ON LEASH.

Informative and interesting. Lots of things to view and read. Good addition to the Franklin Civil War Battle site visit experience.

Although I was pleased to see, and appreciate, the historical monuments and explanations, I visited Winstead Hill Park on a near-daily basis March-November 2016 for walking purposes. The walking loop to the north of the monuments takes you into a pretty meadow and copses of...More
