This was not easy to find because the GPS system is not accurate. We never got to see the inside of the house. The last ‘tour’ was at 3 pm and we arrived at 3:10. There is a visitor’s center and a museum you can visit until about 4:30 pm. The museum is huge- and there is SO much information you can not absorb it all. I went about it with a “I’ll see what I can” attitude, knowing I could not read or study everything presented. It’s overwhelming but well presented. The museum really does side with the confederate cause and that’s okay - because they have been vilified (rightly or wrongly) ever since. It does give you something to think about and presents another side to a very bloody time in our nation’s history.

They have an incredible facility, knowledgeable & friendly staff, and a growing collection of displays with unique artifacts that you won't find in any other museum. To top it off, admission is more than affordable, regardless of your budget.

If you want to learn true history about the Southern U.S. and the War Between the States (or "the Civil War" if you prefer) then go visit this top notch museum... you won't be disappointed and you WILL learn something.

My teen son and I were on a 4600 mile road trip and visited this large, impressive museum after going to the James K. Polk Museum. This looked to be a very new museum about the southern cause during the Civil War. We did not get to tour the Elm Springs mansion as we did not have time, but it looked impressive as well. The whole facility was beautiful and very well maintained. The museum lays out the civil war in a non politically correct way which is what a museum should always do, but nowadays typically don't. It is large and has room to expand once it acquires more artifacts / historical items. The grounds have a commanding view from the rear with historically significant monuments and graves on the grounds. The gift shop is huge and the staff were very friendly. History is profoundly important and I am glad to see this museum respect the past in order to educate the future.

Attended the reinterment of General and Mrs. Nathan Bedford Forrest over the weekend. Hubby and I were very impressed with both the SCV museum, the grounds, and the events involved Friday and Saturday. In spite of the rain forecasted, there was a break in the clouds that allowed a very moving funeral tribute to this couple. The museum is very informative and promises the be even more so in the future. Looking forward to getting back to the area for future events. SCV should be very proud of their endeavors in preserving and presenting this important history.

We visited Historic Elm Springs on a beautiful spring day and it did not disappoint. It is a guided tour of the house and our tour guide was knowledgeable and interesting. Be aware that part of the tour is on the 2nd floor and requires going up a flight of stairs.

This was not a planned activity on our road trip. We came across this gem by chance and would highly recommend this trip to any one. This is a Confederate Museum as well, but please keep an open mind and visit it with an open heart and mind. The tour guide we had the pleasure of having was Larry and Lisa. They were both very knowledgeable and very receptive to questions.

Take time if your in the area and visit this place you will not regret it at all.

I wasn’t expecting very much. There are so many historic homes to be seen and I have seen some. However, the guided tour we Had provided excellent insight into the way the family lived in this house and some of the idiosyncrasies of the design. Also, the museum behind is excellent. It is well laid out and deserving of more promotion than it seem to get from the website. Although I don’t agree with everything That is espoused about slavery The rest of the exhibit is very well displayed and explained. We were lucky we actually got there because we had great difficulty finding the entrance. It is between two commercial buildings with just a street number on it. We never did see any Obvious visible sign, directing us to the house and museum

Visited the historic Elm Springs house and the Confederate Museum. Both are 5 star stops. The house tour guide was quite friendly and knowledgeable, able to provide quality info on history of the house as well as part it played in Civil War. The museum, for a Civil War lover, was something haven’t seen before. The total viewpoint of the Southern side, in a tasteful manner. Also with so many monuments being taken down it has become a proper home to a number.

Beautiful historical home with Civil War story, House is surprisingly large for the period and still has much furniture that was used in the home. Tour guide (Larry) did an excellent job of showing and explaining the home. Highly recommend.

Alecia focused on architecture, family history, clothing, china, antiques instead of troup movements like the Carnton House tour guide. We spent over two hours there because we were so engaged but you could do it in less than an hour if you didn't have time. 2019 they plan to open a new museum next door, under construction in July 2018.
