Raccoon Mountain Caverns is located just 1.3 miles off of I-24 at the Lookout Valley exit (#174), and is less than ten minutes from downtown Chattanooga. Visitors are presented with a cave in its natural state and our 45-minute (+/-) Crystal Palace Walking Tour allows them to view thousands of diverse formations - stalagtites, stalagmites, delicate soda straws, flowstone, rimstone pools, draperies, columns, natural bridges, and a rare shield formation. We also offer a variety of wild cave "spelunking" expeditions for those who want to view beyond the lighted pathways and explore deeper into the mountain. Our Waterfall Dome expedition permits visitors to view the areas tallest underground, natural (unassisted) flowing waterfall.

We reserved the Echo Room, 3 hour cavern tour and it exceeded our expectations. Ashley, our tour guide, was simply amazing. She had just enough energy, very motivating and knowledgeable and did an awesome job leading us through. Read the website and email when you reserve! You will get dirty! Bring a change of clothes and wear clothes you won't... More

Bad stuff out of the way first. High prices - around $75 for four adults. Pretty short tour if you don't plan on taking one of the longer several hour crawling expeditions which can run into hundreds of $$$ with a group. Facilities are aging pretty seriously and could do with a lot of touch-up. Nature trail is COVERED in... More

We went for canyon cave crawling today, it was so much fun and educational at the same time. Our guide Justin is great and fun to have lead the tour. At some points of the tour were a little tide squeezed and we're on our hands and knees and getting muddy, that was part of the fun and adventure. Would... More

My 11 year old son and I did the waterfall dome expedition which is 3 1/2 hours. The reason for the 56" height requirement is because you need this height in order to "body bridge" over the canyons. My son is 57" and was almost too short to stretch across some of the canyons (he was in front of me... More

We had a great time. My 9 year old daughter and I took the 45 minute tour as part of a spring special. Our tour guide, Scarlett, was very informative, professional, and did an excellent job. The tour wasn't too long, and my daughter really enjoyed it. I did too! I definitely raccoon Mountain as a place to add to... More

Rained nonstop all day, but that does not mean your adventure is cancelled. On the contrary, I received an email saying bring extra clothes because you WILL get dirty! The abundance of rain made an already adventurous tour, all the more exciting, enlivening the natural waterfalls and creating streams and pools underground where they hadn't been before. And we had... More

We spent three hours on the Echo Cave Crawling Tour. It was first thing Monday morning and we hit it right. Just the two of us and the amazing Michael Herrera. We climbed, scrambled, scraped, and occasionally walked. We were covered in mud from head to toe and it was fabulous. If you are at all adventurous, this is a must... More

By far the BEST field trip I've ever taken with students. Not only did we see what we're studying in class but we challenged ourselves, worked together, and got really dirty! The guide was excellent and was extremely knowledgeable and fun. It was also nice to have some choices in certain areas of "easy" or "squeezy"! This will now be... More

Glad we did this. We did the walking tour which was about an hour and a chilly, damp walk through really beautiful cave. Our tour guide was great. The ground is wet so I don't recommend wearing open toe shoes. We considered doing the climbing, crawling tour but after I saw the water on the ground and how cold it... More
