This is a very large park for this part of the state and there are many amenities. It is also a great place to bird with many species along the river and around Lake Yankton. Lake Yankton is also a great place for kayaking and canoeing as gas boat engines are not allowed.

I visited Yankton with my dog on new years weekend to fit in a quick get-a-way to hike and eagle watch before work started back up for the spring. I visited the Lewis & Clark Rec. area and hiked the Gavins Point trail and one across the river at the Welcome Center. The trails were relaxing to walk with my... More

This is a beautiful park and campground area with a rich variety of views, including a giant damn, a large reservoir and a picturesque lake behind the dam.

The river and lake are beautiful with so much to do. The dam is also interesting and you can drive across it and take a scenic drive back to Yankton.

Gorgeous campsites right on the Missouri river! Big campground, very spread out. The best showers we've run across since traveling from Connecticut. We will be back. The Rangers are the best. Was stung by a yellow jacket, having to go to the emergency room, they had us follow, called police to not stop us! All ended well!

Lewis and Clark Recreation area in Yankton, South Dakota is the best camp ground around. Very good rules for getting a camp site and its fair for every one to have an opportunity to get a camp site. There is no camp site hogging like the Nebraska State Parks seem to have a problem with. Very clean and very well... More

If you want to visit but do not have a camper, visit the resort at the recreation area. You can rent a 2 or 3 bedroom cabin with everything you need except food. Not to far from the beach and only 4 miles from town if you want to shop. Great hiking trails, biking and chance to relax in nature.... More
