It's worth the stop if you are in Sturges or the local area but not worth a long trip to go see. We spent about 2 hours there.

To honor our veterans a trip to this museum is worth your time. Ft. Meade has been active throughout the beginning and been through so much. Very interesting.

This was very pleasant surprise for a smaller museum. Lots of history packed into the place and very interesting! Go up the hill in back and walk around the old time military cemetary. I'm glad we found it and took the time.

Yes, it was named after George G. Meade but the fort was established in 1878-1879 to protect settlers that came into the Black Hills following the discovery of gold by the Custer Expedition in 1874.
