To some, we are a Native American art gallery; to others, we are a trading post reminiscent of days gone by. On the corner of 6th Street and Main in downtown Rapid City, Prairie Edge stands two stories high and stretches out for half a block as a brick, wood, and glass storefront that has been restored to its original 19th century glory. Inside, the hardwood floors and polished cabinetry bring to mind the spirit of the Old West, while the distinct smell of sweetgrass and soft sound of a Lakota flute evoke the mystique of the Plains Indian culture.

Certainly this is a for profit retail shop with amazing art and unique regional things, BUT it is also virtually a museum with an amazing collection of beads and beadwork. The staff is helpful but let you browse and stay as long as you want....More

Only everything really is for sale. Fabulous items in a multitude of formats such as clothing, bead work, wood, pottery, paintings, artifacts, and much more. Words cannot do it justice. Fantastic works of art. You just have to see it to believe it.

This gallery was really something. I loved that there was so much Indian stuff in there, but I was sad that they stopped selling buffalo meats. If you go, take note about what is Indian made and what is 'inspired' I think they called it....More
