This is a very good park near Rapid Creek. There is hiking and biking riding. But I liked the history information. It was near here that Rapid City got its start in 1876. About 12 men laid out the mile square city street grid. I found out the streets are based on magnetic north , not true north because they just used their magnetic compasses.

Hard to believe this area got hit with a severe winter storm just two days ago. Walkways were clear of snow with just a few patches of ice here and there. Parking lot was basically clear as well. Our dog really enjoyed getting out and walking the park, checking in on the ducks and the geese, and watching Rapid Creek as it was running high. Excellent outing on a nice, near spring day.

The original map of the townsite is indicated on a cement floor. There is a fish public art installation. Have the kids count how many trout they can find. The Eagles sculpture represents two policemen killed in the line of duty in 2011. And you have easy access to the bike or walking path along Rapid Creek.

It's such a nicely laid out park with several really interesting exhibits on the history of Rapid City. There is a nice path along the water and it's a great place to wander around.

It's a park, what can you say. But Rapid City does things right here. Very pleasant place to sit and enjoy the time.

This is a nice area to just walk around and relax. The kids like to take of their shoes and walk around in the shallows of Rapid Creek.
