We were looking for a way to break up a trip from Wyoming back to Wisconsin. And while De Smet is a fair amount off the interstate, my daughter recently had done a report on Laura Ingalls Wilder, so there we were driving through the...More

This is a great place where people can spend a lot of time exploring. Be sure to check with the visitor's center to use a golf cart if needed as a lot of walking on rolling terrain is a part of the visit. That being...More

All right let's say it's a matter of opinion, but the Ingalls Homestead is an amazing place to visit. Located on a prairie rise just outside of town, it covers the original ground successfully homesteaded by the Ingalls family of the famous "Little House" books....More

I absolutely loved this place. My kids (ages 6, 10, & 17) did to. It's very hands on!!!Every child gets a chance to drive the covered wagon and make a rope and corn doll. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It was so much...More

If you like history and you liked watching the show when it was on back in the 1970s, you will love the Little House on the Prairie locations in Walnut Grove, MN and DeSmet. There are original homes that were built by the Ingalls and...More

What a fun way to end our Little House on the Prairie day. We followed the trail from Walnut Grove and Plum Lake. It's everything I wanted in a fan experience, including driving a pony cart and a full wagon.

We visited in early April, which is the off season. Our visit was fine because we were able to walk the ground and to go in to many of the buildings without any crowds. The bathrooms were locked, but that was a minor inconvenience. I...More

We spent the whole day at the Ingalls Homestead, and it was great and felt very authentic. Both children and adults enjoyed the Day thoroughly - even though only two of us (we were 6 people There) read the books.

Will be visiting with my two teenagers. They read the books in 4th grade so we would love to stop and see the Little House memorabilia and buildings. Not sure if it's worth $12 at the Homestead as they may not enjoy the activities geared for younger kids. I would appreciate input from those who have been. We also plan to visit Mansfield, MO and stop by Walnut Grove to eat at Nellie's . Thanks!

Hi Michelle, Since previous visitors have not yet chimed in, I thought I'd at least give you my opinion, biased though it may be. Teenagers often enjoy visiting us, even when they don't always expect to have fun. It will... More
