The mission of Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation is to protect and preserve the culture, tradition and living heritage of the North American Indians. The Foundation demonstrates its commitment to this endeavor by continuing the progress on the world's largest sculptural undertaking by carving a memorial of Lakota leader Crazy Horse; by providing educational and cultural programming; by acting as a repository for American Indian artifacts, arts and crafts through the INDIAN MUSEUM OF NORTH AMERICA(R) and the NATIVE AMERICAN EDUCATIONAL & CULTURAL CENTER(R); and by establishing and operating the INDIAN UNIVERSITY OF NORTH AMERICA(R) and, when practical, a medical training center for American Indians.

Well worth a look. Crazy Horse's head is just about finished. His horses head is set out on the granite. It gives you an idea of the size of the undertaking

We enjoyed spending an hour or so here. Loved looking at all the history. We didn't spend the extra money to get closer to the rock but it has a great view outside.

I wasn't interested in going to this place, but everyone else in the family was. Once I got there, I was impressed and enjoyed learning about this Memorial. We saw a movie giving us the history of the place and the family involved in building the statue. It was accessible by wheelchair and we rode a private bus up to... More

Yes, one man began this memorial in 1948...estimates are that it will be complete in 4 generations. There is a 1/34 scale model of the complete project outside of the museum . Pay the money for the bus that takes you to the base of the mountain. There are 13 men who work on the project daily. Be sure to... More

I very much enjoyed going to this memorial. You are not able to get very close because it is under construction. There is a museum that is mostly about the Warriors that fought Custer. The gift shop is beautiful - all of the structures are beautiful. Because this memorial is not supported in any way by the federal government, I... More

This is another must-see. It's difficult to realize how huge it is - they say the Mt. Rushmore figures would fit in the head! There's a nice visitor center with an interesting film about the sculptor and how the memorial was done, artifacts from Indians all over the world, not just America; places to eat - we had an ice... We really enjoyed our visit here and found it to be one of our favorite places to visit in the Black Hills area. There is plenty of great views of the mountain sculpture and they have a very nice documentary movie about the man and his family who constructed it and how it came about. Afterwards there's a very nice... More

My first visit was 26 years ago. Amazing then and even more now. I don't know if I will live long enough to see the total finished monument. But it is the story behind this sculpture that proves that men can dream, and we should always remember the dreams. There have been lots of improvements with the visitors center and... More

This was such an awesome experience for my entire family! Learning about the story behind this memorial was very inspiring. We thoroughly enjoyed the film that was shown and the different displays and exhibits. Not to be missed!

We did not spend much time here, but we did take the bus tour up to the monument. There is a charge for parking and then an additional $4/person charge for the bus tour. On the bus you do learn more about the memorial. There is work being done 40 hours a week, and it is estimated that work on... More
