Glorious ruins in the middle of a live oak forest!

Although it is about a 17-mile drive from Beaufort, this historic site is worth it. Pack a picnic or travel with friends or family to an astonishing site for quiet reflection.

Beautiful remains of an old church. Nice to just walk around but perfect for photography. Arrive early or late if you want to try to be here by yourself. Just drive down Oldl Sheldon Church Road; you won't be able to miss it. The building is very visible from the road. There is a large parking lot directly across the... More

This place is incredible! It is hauntingly beautiful with the ruins and the oak trees covered with Spanish moss! I could have spent much longer than I did there. It's a great place to photograph!! Take a break from the 95 traffic and see this place!!

A group of friends took a trip to Beaufort, SC and one of us insisted in going here, just out of town. Boy were we glad. This place is beautiful but much more than just that. Full of history and peace. This church was the very one that inspired the scene in The Patriot where the British burned the church.... More

The Old Sheldon Church Ruins is a very special site to visit. Very quiet and dignified place. Enjoyed the history and stories of the church. Great photo opportunities all around the property. Worth the drive off the main road to visit.

I was fortunate enough to arrive at 10:00 on a weekday and had the entire site to myself. There are no words to describe it....If you listen closely you can hear the history...............Worth the extra few miles out of your way to see......I would suggest using your phone GPS with the name to locate as there is no street number.

On this sunny day in March it was a perfect day to stroll these ruins and read the epataths on the remaning tombstones surrounding the church. The moss draped oaks with the full blooming dogwoods gave a very elegant air to the grounds. If you enjoy photography you can spend hours here. Very well cared for place of history. Plenty... More
