We just drove by for quick photo from the passenger seat. I knew it wasn’t a lighthouse that could be visited but wanted a photo of this modern lighthouse. There were national park signs on buildings around it so not sure if there are plans to open it to the public. It’s an ugly lighthouse but unique so worth a drive by on the way to fort moultrie.

driving by you will see an unusual design for a lighthouse that is in need to be maintained. There is no official parking but an interesting short stop.

The lighthouse itself is not too appealing. It’s more of an eyesore for the beach, if anything. Yet, I decided to take pictures of it from different angles. A coast guard clown came out fully enraged yelling at me, accused me of taking pics of their cars (???). Guess somebody’s been spending too much time on TikTok.

Overall, this “attraction” is not worth it.

Well, the lighthouse was not much to experience. There is no parking, so you have to find street parking (impossible in the afternoon). We knew you couldn’t climb or enter the lighthouse, but we didn’t realize it was fenced off and in such disrepair—it was very sad to see the state it was in. I’m glad we stopped because it was a very unique design. Honestly, I’d say it was best viewed from the beach, around Station 18.

This lighthouse is great to visit while in Sullivan's Island. You can read about the structure and architecture of the building. While you can't access the lighthouse itself, it's still worth the drive over to view it. Check out our blog!

The Sullivan's Island lighthouse is well worth a short visit - it's an easy stroll from the road. It's quite bizarre - ludicrously top-heavy, but all the more remarkable for that.
One of South Carolina's more intriguing examples of surreal architecture.

This is the most unusual structure for a lighthouse that I've seen. The shape of this structure is better for high winds.

While this may be not be as classically beautiful as some of the older lighthouses, which may disappoint some because it is a modern lighthouse (built in the 60s), this is the last major lighthouse built in the US, which for those interested in maritime history, makes this a cool place to visit. There is an informational display nearby that talks about the design and designer of this light. There is a lovely beach just a few steps away.

My 9 yr old daughter and I walked right by this because we found parking near it so we could go to the beach.

We didn’t even realize it was a destination. It’s very unimpressive and definitely not worth seeking out.

This lighthouse is not pretty at all. We did not walk to its base. It can be seen from Fort Sumter and does not add anything pretty to the view of Sullivan's Island.
