Not sure how to rate this, since the museum was closed on a Friday morning when hours stated it would be open. But it's run by volunteers so just let me WARMLY recommend you call a day or two in advance and make sure someone can be there. It sounded fascinating and is a sweet looking building. Staffed by descendants of the original students. Think about that! Our host pointed to old photos of her father. Amazing. Mind blowing to see how tiny and cramped the classroom was and what a lifechanging spot this was for so many. We were there a little over an hour and learned so much.

I took my 11 year old son. He got to meet former students of the school and ask questions. We are always looking for places to learn African American history and this museum was a gem. The students were amazing and informative and my son walked away in awe of their accomplishments. Call ahead before u go the hours they... More
