A very historical park with an old school, museum, and statue of Andrew Jackson on his horse done by Anna Wyatt Huntington, who incidentally was a co-founder of Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet, SC and world renown for her statues. The museum was only open for two hours each day so we were not able to see that part and we were extremely disappointed. We have observed that many of the state parks offices are not open all day but you still have access to the park.

It is a relatively small park but has historical buildings to see, as well as a museum. Particularly impressive was a statue finished after the sculptor was 90 years old. It was of Andrew Jackson as a boy, because this was honoring the years Andrew Jackson lived in SC. Not far away from the park is the cemetery that has his father and brothers, and a beautiful statue honoring his mother who is not buried there.

We were visiting the Charlotte area, it was to be a beautiful day out, so my niece suggested we come to Andrew Jackson State Park. This place is beautiful, and full of history. Toured the small museum, then walked around the grounds and lake area and had a great time. This State Park is kid-friendly, and we highly recommend it for a few hour break from your routine!

One can learn the history of one of the more colorful Presidents of the United States at the local museum. One can check out the school. One can check out the little lake and trails with an abundance of wildlife. One can see the statue of Jackson created by Huntington.

This park often has something going on - check the schedule and not only will you be rewarded with the above, you may learn how to start a fire from a costumed native, or taste some apple crumble cooked on an open fire. Use the S.C. Parks website to see what is going on - but regardless there is always something and it’s always wonderful.

We stayed in the campground area for the 2020 Labor Day weekend, camp host was great! So this review doesn’t reflect him, but I will never stay here again.
The bath house was clean with only one working toilet. it was broken when we arrived and still out of order on Monday, 30 campsites one working toilet, lol
The showers hot water cut out at random, the picnic area is a short walk from the campground, but they’re rest rooms had raw sewage flowing from the drains,
The park Rangers are latexed and don’t care, if so roto rooter would been called, These are disgusting conditions and the state needs to address the staffing issues BAD . I thought about buying a states park pass , but I’m not wasting my money with sc state parks .

Beautiful quiet setting in the woods! The park ranger was very friendly and opened the museum for me and another couple. He was happy to answer questions and it was very informative. The museum is small but interesting. The grounds have the statue of young Jackson and some stone markers for his birthplace and his mother. There are nature trails and campsites available.

I have visited this park since I was a kid back in the 70s. It has not changed much. Has a nice old house with antiques and a old school house. There are a few other buildings for public use there as well. There is also a campground with the basic services available.

Stop by when you are in the area and step back in time.

How fortunate that Andrew Jackson was born within a reasonable distance from Charlotte, making a visit to the State Park a pleasant 1/2-day trip for folks in that region! The small admission fee is worth it as the visitor is treated to an extremely well-done museum, complete with exhibits and videos (call first to ensure someone's being there). The recreated outbuildings (School and Meeting House) are excellent examples of what those would have been like in Jackson's day. A very impressive sculpture by Anna Huntington of young Andrew astride his horse is a focal point of the park. There's also a 1-mile marked nature trail if you are so inclined (moderate).

I love this park. There is a variety of things to do. There are shelters and facilities to rent. It's a great place to have a birthday party, family reunion or even showers. If you love nature, try Andrew Jackson State Park.
