Pristine surroundings for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Love the trails and how close to nature, ( including alligators if so inclined), you can actually get. Very relaxing and not crowded on most occasions. Recommend reservations if horseback riding is part of the agenda.

We were riding bikes through the area and decided to swing by since we were close. Still a lot of things closed from the hurricane last year, but an amazing piece of wilderness stuck in the middle of a tourist destinations. Pretty area--

The preserve has always been a favorite stop, especially if I've travelled with a canine companion. Apply the bug spray liberally, and then enter to see a large variety of plants, birds, and animals. Sadly, Hurricane Matthew caused a large amount of damage to the preserve that has not been fully cleaned up - some areas are closed due to... More

We biked over to the Sea Pines Forest Preserve and then walked around it. Many of the trails were closed for cleanup from Hurricane Matthew, so we could not get over to the Indian Shell Ring. The wildflowers and alligators were cool. There is a strong smell near the entrance which detracts from the beauty.

We were there 7 months after hurricane Matthew, so there were still a lot of trees down and a lot of cleaning up that needed to be done - thus the sign at the entrance warning us of unsafe conditions. Overall, it was still a pretty area with beautiful trails. There were a lot of different options for both walking... More

The preserve has an abundance of wildlife (birds, gators, etc.) with historical shell rings and modern water recirculation. The gator boat tour from H2O operaes from there with a wonderful opportunity to see eagles, osprey, gators, etc.

Biking, hiking or horseback riding through the preserve is great. The lakes are great places to spy alligators, turtles, birds and other wildlife. Mind the time of day and wear your bug spray! It is nature after all! Beautiful trees and wildflower field. Not quite recovered from hurricane Matthew...but, that's nature too!

From the pictures I thought the place looked pretty awesome and I was excited about going and I'm sorry to say it was a waste of time for me. It could be because this place did get hurricane damage but even so I don't get the awesome reviews. We have a lot more beautiful places around Austin to hike through.... More

Biking through the forest preserve required some strong leg muscles as some of the paths we used were dirt/sand. A great workout, but also beautiful and fresh, with lots of shade. Seeing an alligator sunbathing was a nice surprse, and Mary Lake is a nice place to take a break and rest.
