Great people, great pastors and wonderful message. Large church with ample parking. They have one service during the summer months, either traditional or contemporary.

I've been to this church several times over the years and watched it grow - sometimes inside, sometimes outside. Huge family suppers were held here each Wednesday night; they still do, but on a smaller scale.
The church is easy to find - there's a traffic light in front of it on Cherokee Road - and the church itself is huge - somebody supersized it. The parking lot is large, too, and many people park on the grass. It has many entrances though and it can be confusing finding the right one. I've tried as many as three doors before finding an open one. (Go for the ones under the steeple - they're open!) There is a huge park immediately behind the church, too, with tennis courts, picnic tables and grills, and a very cool playground for kids. (The church also has a small playground.)
The church has two services, contemporary first, then a traditional service at 11:00 a.m. The contemporary is interesting because their praise band, while very good, has little or no youth and I wonder how it will continue - and because the church is empty when the band starts, but full by sermon time. The traditional service has a full choir and often times an orchestra - and they are phenomenal! I've also been to their holiday services and they'll knock your socks off.
I've always been made welcome at this church - they actually seem to go out of their way to make visitors welcome. Maybe it's a Southern thing. The preaching is usually amazing - educational and convicting, motivating and encouraging - sometimes challenging; it covers more than the rainbow and butterfly parts of Christianity. And it is conservative. There are usually two pastors, each quite different from the other, with his own strengths and weaknesses. They actually compliment each other well.
The children's minister does an incredible job and the kids seem to love her. There are several Sunday School classes for the kids, by grade, and the kids seem to enjoy going. There is a youth program - it's in the bulleting, but not sure what they actually do other than go on trips. The church has quite an array of other activities - mission trips, adult Sunday School, a homeless ministry, men's and women's groups - things of that nature. Oh - there is a living nativity at Christmas and a "Triumphal Entry" before Easter.
Highly recommended if you're looking for a church in Florence!

I am not into boring preachers so this didn't appeal to my husband and myself. If you are going to get me out of bed on Sunday morning I need you to be interesting and the people to be friendly to strangers.
