Does “Southern Charm” include racism? Anyone with even a minimal understanding of what this individual stood for should be mortified.

This is a finely made statue on an elevated pedestal located on the south east corner of the Statehouse property. It is easy to locate and there is adequate space nearby to locate a large crane to aid in removing it. I thought it seemed...More

We walked around the city and knew we had to see the state house. It did impress us even though we have seen the pictures! Stopped outside at the statue and took some pictures. Definitely a good add on to your tour of the area.

It is a beautiful equestrian statue. But Wade Hamilton was a confederate general, supporter of the terrorist style group "red shirts" and as govenor helped write some of S.C.'s jim crow laws. Why is it on the State House Grounds?

Wade Hampton played such an important part in South Carolina's History and visiting this statue reminds one of all he did. School children need to be taught true history and should visit this and other monuments honoring our state heroes.

Leaving all politics and personalities aside, as a first time visitor to the State House I had no idea who Wade Hampton was until I googled him later. But based solely on what I saw as statue honoring a military man I have to say...More

With all the political unrest regarding statues, you better go see this one, located on the state house grounds at the rear of the capital building before some fool tears it down.
