We did a self guided tour and learned about the history of the state house. Believe it or not Pokemon go taught us much about the history also by taking us to spots around the grounds. My favorite part was seeing the damage from prior attacks. Really puts things into perspective. Grounds are peaceful and beautiful to walk around. Entrance... More

Interesting guided tour. Well worth doing if visiting Columbia. Paintings and architecture are great.

The state house is beautiful on the inside. Admission is free. If your in downtown and showing your visiting friends/relatives around stop by.

My 6 year old actually even enjoyed the tour...beautiful building and lots of history, love the cannon ball markers on the outside plus really pretty grounds now

Felt as though I was unwelcome. Beautiful interior and classic exterior but everywhere I turned I had eyes on me. I was alone in shorts with a camera, yet felt as if I would make everyone more comfortable by leaving... so i did

We entered from Sumter St. which made the walk into the Capitol much easier especially for older folks or lazy ones. The grounds had benches and walking paths that were shaded by the many trees which took you away from the noise of the city and allowed for a nice stroll to the Capitol. You may take a guided tour... Beautiful grounds and lots of history. Look for the gold stars on the side of the building for where cannon balls hit during the war. Good museum inside.
