One of only five National Historic Landmarks within Columbia, the Robert Mills House exemplifies the skill of the first architect born and trained within the United States who designed some of the nation's most prominent buildings, including the Washington Monument. Today, the structure stands as a testament of its designer's architectural ability and the preservation efforts of generations of Columbians.

I did the tour of this house, and it was very well done. I was the only person on the tour, and so the tour guide was able to chat with me more so than usual. The house is unusual for a house of its era, and the caretakers have done a lot to ensure the inside is preserved and... More

I've loved historic houses all my life & spent my professional life working in house museums or historic sites from docent to director. Robert Mills is one of my favorite architects from that period & I've know of this site for 30 years but was never able to visit. WORTH THE WAIT!! I had a fantastic guide and was able... More

The history behind the "Robert Mills" house is extremely interesting and it's somewhat deceiving. If you are visiting Columbia,SC or if you live in Columbia, SC you've got to get some of this random history. It's kinda of odd that a old mansion would be situated right downtown. If you work downtown you could actually visit it on your lunch... More

So very historical, everyone will love this. I discovered so many historical facts after the tour. The young lady was so knowledgeable about the Mills house. I would highly recommend a visit if you are ever in the area.

The Historic Columbia tour guide made the visit very interesting. She was knowledgeable and presented many facts and historic points. The house and grounds have been through many changes and has had various uses. It is terrific that the house has been preserved and that Historic Columbia has continued to make it an interesting place to visit.

We chose to take a Sunday afternoon tour for $1 with Historical Columbia. We had arrived early enough to walk around the grounds at the RMH and take in the gardens, and I'm glad we did. Our tour took us to the Hampton=Preston property across the street for the actual house tour. Such a nice way to spend some time!

Nice grounds, house and gift shop in the heart of downtown Columbia that is worth a pitstop. I was there on a cloudy Saturday midday and the property appears to be in a work in progress needing more funding, but the vast majority of it looks good and if you are a garden lover, even in February, I enjoyed the... This was a guided tour of the property. The guide was well informed and the tour took us through the home and around the outside of the property.

I took my here for candle light tour. The guides did great job. The downstairs was more interesting. To see family dining room and the pantry and preparation rooms was worth the visit.
