I’ve visited this museum several times over the years. Some of the exhibits I love seeing again and again – there’s always something I’ve missed. And then there are the visiting exhibits that are just awesome – like the Rome exhibit we came to see on this particular visit! The museum is housed in the shell of a former cotton... More

Whether you like history, science (including astronomy!), agriculture, transportation, nature, or just seeing lots of interesting objects, you will find much to browse at this museum. It's also easy but a bit confusing to visit. The ticket booth is near the front door and off to the left, but the exhibits are wide open so general admission is on the... More

Stopped in for a visit as I hadn't been here in years. Counter person in a uniform couldn't have been less helpful. If I were a first time viditor, I believe it would be my last. Museum itself has many interesting exhibits.

My group of 'girls day out' were spending a out-of-town night in Columbia and looking for something to do on a cold rainy day, and ran across this on the Columbia website for 'things to do'. We normally don't choose museums, but this one was running a Holiday Pass special and it sounded like an interesting and different experience. What... More

Perfect outing for a gloomy day after Christmas. We purchased the Master Explorer Pass, which included entry to the special Julius Caesar and Ancient Rome exhibit, a 4-D movie (The Shallow Seas), and a Planetarium show (Star of Bethlehem). We had lunch at the Museum Café, and had really good visit.. Only downside, tons of families and kids out of... More

It has been a while since we've been to the museum. First Let me clarify, we are spoiled with having lived in the DC area and enjoyed the museums there tremendously. At the State Museum gets expensive, especially when you take children.... Plus extra for the special exhibits. The SC Clothing display -- interesting but could have been much better.... More

My husband and I took in the state museum for a day. We had visited about a year ago and they have done a lot of remodeling and adding an observatory and planetarium. They had a special event on machinery and weapons of the Ceasar eras. It was mostly reproduction but very fascinating. The exibit was well done and flowed... More

Excellent presentations. I really enjoy history and the old South Carolina displays were extremely informative. Then current exhibits were very well done as well. The flow of the museum was very good even on a crowded day. Enjoy

The SC State Museum is great adventure for every family member. The new additions of the Planetarium and 4D Theater are awesome! The employees are most helpful!

This place is huge. They added a planetarium that is awesome. If you like history go and take the day to walk around and learn.
