When my family and I go Columbia, we get to experience the best of both worlds when we go to the South Carolina State Museum and the River Banks Zoo. Having a great place to take the kids in order to avoid the heat of the day and/or the rain squall that would otherwise likely ruin your vacation makes this... More

My husband and I visited this museum while staying in Columbia. It's a nice museum with interesting displays. Some might could use a little updating since a few things were faded, but that happens anywhere...age of the display and people touching things day after day... We watched a short film in the planetarium. It was very interesting! There are also... More

Went to the SC State Museum with my family and had a great time. The planetarium was not open the first time that we went but we did go back once it opened. When we went the cost to see the film in the planetarium included museum entry all-in-one.

Started on the 4th floor and worked our way down. Lots to see and enjoy including the geological formation of the state, revolutionary and civil wars, WWII role as home base for Jimmy Doolittle raid on Tokyo; agriculture and industrial revolution. Just wonderful.

This is a place that we need more of. A place to turn phones off and have some fun while learning and appreciating history. From small children to seniors, they have exhibits for all to enjoy. We loved the planetarium, saw the one about Sea Monsters and it was fantastic! Grab the family and go..you won't regret it.

This is a large museum that will wear you out. There is a lot to see and read. While there are a lot of artifacts, there are a lot of full-sized re-creations like the H.L. Hunley, a section of Fort Moultrie, and the first train in South Carolina. That also have an observatory where the staff invites you in to... More

Much better than anticipated. Museum was not at all crowded midweek. Great exhibits and Imax theater. Staff at the telescope exhibits were very conscientious and clearly love their jobs. Hunley exhibit very interesting.

We really enjoyed the experiences of this museum from the 4d theater to the live astronomy exhibit with a telescope pointed at the sun during the day. The museum stays open some nights to look at the night sky. 4floors of history! We took an afternoon to have a look and it was time well spent. The staff was especially... More
