Riverbanks Zoo and Garden is home to nearly 2,000 animals that represent more than 350 species from around the world. A visit to the Zoo will play host to an array of wild adventures from a diving expedition on a Pacific coral reef to a safari through the plains of Africa to an interactive Outback encounter with a flock of sociable lorikeets.

The Botanical Garden boasts 70-acres of unparalleled beauty and is considered one of the America's best public gardens. Dramatic and themed gardens showcase more than 4,300 species of native and exotic plants, providing a living classroom for gardeners and non-gardeners alike.

The Garden also is the gateway to natural river views and spectacular valley overlooks. In addition, guests can view structural remains dating back to the early 1800s with South Carolina's textile industry and the Civil War.

This zoo is near and dear to my heart. I have been coming here since I was a little girl, and it was awesome then. I was shocked and amazed at all the new improvements they made to the zoo, which just made it even better. I visited for a Girl Scout trip and we spent the night, so we... More

I had not been to the Riverbanks Zoo in many years, but I was not disappointed! What a variety of animals and exhibits! Clean, beautiful, even had a ropes course! Loved it!

We have always enjoyed visiting this zoo. My favorite part of the zoo include the aquatics exhibit. Since our last visit they have added several new events like the Sky High Safari. We had gotten there later in the day, so we didn't get to experience everything there was to do, but will plan another day trip soon. A great... More

What a wonderful venue to celebrate Christmas. The zoo offers great games for the children to play along with colorful decorations, A very safe family outing. Did I mention the great hot chocolate. You get two things for the price one. A Wonderful Christmas atmosphere and the Riverbank Zoo Animals. See you this December!

I've been to zoos all over the country (and in other countries too), and Riverbanks is one of the best, if not the best. I've been going the zoo since it opened in 1974 and have been a member since before my children were born (youngest is 21). We just visited to see the new sea lion exhibit and were... More

This was a great way to entertain the kids, even in the summer heat of Columbia. There are several places to get shade and air conditioning and no shortage of animals and attractions. Must not miss this if you're a family traveling to the area.

Just visited the zoo this past week to see the new California Sea Lion and Harbor Seal exhibit. Fantastic job with the multi-million dollar exhibit designed to recreate a San Francisco pier. Go see the Kangaroo exhibit, you can enter the enclosure as they are docile animals. This is the most visited attraction in the entire state of SC. You... More

Always a pleasant experience to visit this facility. The exhibits are maintained very well and the animals seem very relaxed and not stressed at all. A compact zoo with minimal walking, but not to the point of feeling crowded.
