My spouse made sure this was my first stop at Clemson (with my interest in archaeology, history, and geology) and it was a charming little museum in a very pleasant setting (the botanical gardens). When you go, make sure to set aside a couple of hours to visit the museum, the gardens, and walk down the trails that surround same. It is perfect for a visit during a summer day, and was free admission.
The museum had a very accessible collection, and it was explained in such a way that young children could easily understand it. Don't miss the area that displays the florescent minerals (you get to shut off the lights and listen to a short presentation synced to different UV bands of light...really cool). You can easily do the displays inside in 30-45 minutes. They also offered some very affordable T-Shirts for those looking for a Clemson souvenir.

Within the SC Botanical Garden is a first-rate museum containing a sizable collection of rocks, gems, artifacts, fossils, and what amounts to a real geology treasure trove. There is old mining equiptment to see outside, a catus garden, a glow-in-the dark rock presentation, and case after case of neat things to see. The lighting is very good. Parking is spacious and a few picnic tables make it a perfect science field trip. Collectors will appreciate what is there and anyone with zero knowledge will leave with a feeling of what a neat place.

Dont miss the exhibit of the phosphorescent rocks and minerals. Lots of really interesting exhibits with fossils, minerals and other things from around the world. Kid friendly.

to take someone on a hot day. Get out of the sun, and the exhibits are exceptional. We took my dad who is in a wheelchair and we had no trouble getting him to see everything. There is more there than I thought and it is larger than it looks from outside.

This is fun visit despite being about rocks. There are exhibits on rocks and minerals but also exhibits on fossils. I think children would enjoy some of the exhibits but be pretty bored with the minerals section. The florescent minerals room was wonderful and I watched the transformation of the minerals under UV lights several times. The clerk was helpful and knowledgeable.

I went here after walking through the Clemson botanical garden. It is free and it is full of a lot of interesting fossils, gems, and minerals. They have a little area where you go in a dark room and can see the different gem stones that glow in the dark, as if painted by some kind of UV paint. That was neat. There's also a gift shop with some cool stuff.

We have taken our children and their friends to the Horticultural Gardens and the Bob Campbell Geology Museum since they were 2. Every year, it's their favorite day trip (with the addition of ice cream at the Clemson University's '55 Exchange). Letting them roam through the gardens (take a change of clothes in case they get in the creek), eating a picnic lunch by the caboose, and then visiting the air conditioned museum to participate in the scavenger hunt and see the glowing rocks are activities not to be missed.

This museum on the grounds of the S.C Botanical Gardens is well worth a visit. Great for a family visit or just anyone interested in history and gem stones.

A huge inventory. Some stones in the raw and others polished. Wish I could have spent more time there. My husband can't walk much or climb stairs. We parked behind the building instead of in the parking lot, which was perfect for him.
