Lots of wares for sale....okay but a little touristy. There is a good variety of goods, including hand made baskets done like the slaves used to make them.

We walked all along the downtown area and saw many interesting buildings from Civil War time. However, much of Charleston was destroyed in the earthquake of 1886. So, there is really not a lot of the original city to see.

We stayed next to the market at Planter's Inn. The market building is several blocks long. It is a covered building that's partially open air. The center of the building is enclosed and houses lots of Art, books, clothing and crafts. Throughout the lengthy building there is much to choose from. Woven baskets, hand made jewelry, photography, art work and... More

This area has such atmosphere and is a grand opportunity to purchase a variety of souvenirs. Also capture the sweet grass art form.

It's okay if you don't mind looking at all the junk that you see in every other city market. Souveniers trinkets and baskets. There is one stall that has some pretty good cookies.

Add the historical Market to your list of places to visit when you have an hour or more to spend wandering. There is no cost to enter and wander about this indoor/outdoor (but covered) marketplace. It has many unique vendors that you won't find anywhere else. Sweetgrass baskets, gate jewelry, hats, leather, local art, local foods, soaps and t-shirts are... More

So many different things to buy and see. There are many people that can make a variety of things out of straw.

Very interesting and some real hidden gems in a "not so hyped" museum. This is kind of hard to find because there are no signs pointing up the stairs to the museum.
