There's no better way to see historic Charleston than from the vantage point of an Old South Carriage. Family owned and operated since 1983, Old South Carriage Company offers fully narrated hour-long tours by licensed guides wearing the Confederate uniform with the Red Sash. Come to our English-style stable at 14 Anson Street, just 2 blocks from The City Market and meet our friendly and professional staff. Reservations are not necessary as tours depart every 20 - 30 minutes throughout the day. A ramp leading to a platform makes boarding easy. Old South Carriage Company uses French Percherons and Belgian Draft horses. These sturdy employees vacation at Sugah Cain, the owner's 65-acre plantation on John's Island. For 2-3 months annually, these beautiful horses are free to run in large pastures or leisurely graze under century-old live oaks.

Tours operate daily from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 (DST) 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (EST).

Our carriage driver was well versed in the history, an excellent rapport with the horse, and wove an enjoyable story as he drove us around old Charleston. There was lots of excellent history and architectural information, delivered in a lighthearted, upbeat and often comical style. We thoroughly enjoyed it!

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with RoRo (I hope I got her name correct) and our horse Jack! It was such a fun experience, RoRo was very knowledgeable about the area and it was a great history lesson. I also enjoyed the fact that she gave us some background on the horses and how they are cared for. We would... More

There is so much to see and do in Charleston. This is a wonderful inexpensive way to get a lay of the land and learn some of the massive history that makes the city so amazing. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and funny. Samson, our horse, was awe inspiring. Only wish you could book a package where you get... More

Loved our guide, and really liked how they take the time to talk about the care of the horses, and how they are cycled in briefly for tours and then brought back out to a huge ranch where they hang out most of the time. It was such a great way to see and experience and learn about Charleston.

My guide, Jeremy, was excellent and very entertaining. I forgot the name of our horse, but this animal was entertaining as well. He knew his route by heart and stopped at every fresh tree or bush for a snack. Our guide had patience and took the opportunity to tell us more stories about Old Charleston making it sound more true... More

We had Will and Jake as our hosts on the tour. Very informative. I have been on several carriage rides in Charleston and this one was by far the best. The price was fair and gave us a discount to go to Fort Sumter the next day.

Was looking for parking when we see the carriage pass right by us. I knew that I had to get on that. The tour guide was great funny and nice. Everything about this carriage ride was amazing from the horse to the weather. Would totally do it again and again.

Our tour guide was excellent, with good information and stories. It was a fun way to learn a bit about Charleston and see some of the area before we started doing a lot of walking. Our only complaint is that we were in a room with four people and it really was too crowded.
