There's no better way to see historic Charleston than from the vantage point of an Old South Carriage. Family owned and operated since 1983, Old South Carriage Company offers fully narrated hour-long tours by licensed guides wearing the Confederate uniform with the Red Sash. Come to our English-style stable at 14 Anson Street, just 2 blocks from The City Market and meet our friendly and professional staff. Reservations are not necessary as tours depart every 20 - 30 minutes throughout the day. A ramp leading to a platform makes boarding easy. Old South Carriage Company uses French Percherons and Belgian Draft horses. These sturdy employees vacation at Sugah Cain, the owner's 65-acre plantation on John's Island. For 2-3 months annually, these beautiful horses are free to run in large pastures or leisurely graze under century-old live oaks.

Tours operate daily from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 (DST) 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (EST).

We booked/reserved and paid for a tour only to show up, show them the confirmation and them say, "nope. Unfortunately you're not on the list. We are full." Offered a tour for the next day but That was it!! No apology or anything. Just that the reservations team didn't tell them we were coming. Sad part is, we were only... More

Our family, two adults and two teens, took this carriage ride. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The female guide spoke loudly and everyone seemed to hear her well. We had 4 people in our row. There are 3 routes the carriage companies can take downtown. A ping pong ball is drawn for each carriage to determine which route the driver can... More

We were guided by a new and an experienced guide. Both were excellent. Their stories of people and places kept us entertained for the full trip. We fully recommend this tour for anyone (singles or groups) at all interested in Charleston history.

RoRo and Bob were excellent guides!! Ro was clear and knowledgeable of the area. I've been on carriage rides in other cities, Ro was the best hands down!!

This is the equivalent of a hop on hop off bus tour in the big cities. This was the first activity we did on our first day in Charleston. It gave us a very good idea on the layout of the city, what to explore more of etc. Our tour guide was very informative and funny. I would highly recommend... More

We went on tour #1 and had a great time! Very fun and informative. Our horse was Jack and he was slow that day but I didn't notice! haha . Will definitely go again. I liked that they said the horses have vacation time at the plantation and can be around grass and not hooked to a carriage always.

This was the third time in about 10 years but this time with our grandson. He was a little tired but we all enjoyed the ride. The route for all 5 tour groups is random so you never know which route you will go on. This was our first time on this particular route so it was like a new... More

Book this tour for 11:00 on a Sunday. Our tour guide Mike (and our horse guide Dave) were great. Mike knew alot of information and talked about the city the entire tour. Dave was a very steadfast horse and took us effortlessly through the tour. We lucked out and drew the #1 (Battery Park /waterfront) tour. (There are three routes,... More

The tour guide gave food information about Charleston. It was a great way to see the town. The carriage was comfortable and the drivers costume was fun.

Loved this excursion! From 'Tom' our sweet horse to our tour navigator! She was funny, and knew all kinds of local history on people and places and historical facts. It was a one hour tour that is crammed full of local colour!
